About This Position
Directs and supervises the Patient Access department ensuring that patients are registered in a timely manner and in accordance with hospital policies and with state and federal regulations. Works with other departments throughout the organization on implementing and utilizing the EHR system and keeps abreast of Patient Access processes and tools to maximize the use of the EHR.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible and accountable for the daily operations of the Patient Access department, including the registration of all hospital patients in compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations.
- Works with other clinical staff on EHR utilization and patient flow processes.
- Responsible for researching, implementing and utilizing the EHR in the registration process.
- Trains and ensures that Patient Access staff communicates effectively and in a friendly, courteous manner with all patients, coworkers and visitors.
- Responsible for organizing monthly team meetings that promote educational and improvement opportunities.
- Responsible for the efficient input and accurate data entry of patient information as they are registered as hospital patients.
- Keeps all patient information confidential in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.
- Responsible for extracting various Patient Access data from EHR for monthly/annual reporting and statistics.
- Responsible for the direct management of the Patient Access department which includes: performance management, coaching, goal-setting, etc.
- Responsible for the oversight and monitoring of patient satisfaction scores that are directly related to the Patient Access departments.
- Completes scheduling for Patient Access department, ensuring that all shifts are properly filled with qualified staff to meet the needs of the hospital’s patients.
- Ensures Patient Access staff collects and documents monies due in the EHR and follows the cash policy as set by the hospital.
- Ensures patient satisfaction, including troubleshooting when there is a complaint and developing process improvements to prevent reoccurrences.
- Demonstrates clear ownership of workplace and patient safety.
- Report mistakes, near misses, adverse events and quality and safety concerns.
- Participates in the development and implementation of safety and quality improvement activities.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
Job Requirement
Education: High school diploma/GED required. Associate and/or Bachelor’s degree preferred in healthcare related field.
Licensure/Certification: Related healthcare certifications preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of related healthcare experience is preferred or a closely related field in progressively responsible positions. Advanced computer skills and experience required; previous experience with CPSI, preferred. At least 2 years of previous supervisory experience preferred. Possess strong leadership and relationship building skills, as well as business process analysis and change management expertise. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Physical Requirements: Frequent sitting, standing and walking. May frequently lift up to 25lbs. Frequent reaching, stooping, and bending. Good visual acuity.
