Position Description:
The Heavy Equipment Operator will work on construction projects throughout the Rio Grande area. The employee will be responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery to move, load, grade, and distribute materials such as dirt, gravel, and aggregate. This position requires a high level of precision, safety awareness, and teamwork to ensure efficient and effective operations on the job site.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Experienced operator with the ability to safely and efficiently operate equipment such as Backhoe, Loader, Excavator, Roller, Broom, Scraper, Paving Machine, Dozer, and Motor Grader.
2. Demonstrate a total commitment to safety in all operations and maintain compliance with company and regulatory safety standards.
3. Conduct daily equipment inspections, ensuring that equipment is safe, clean, and in proper working condition.
4. Lubricate all grease points daily using the supplied grease gun and report any maintenance needs to the supervisor.
5. Monitor and record equipment hours and understand the timing for the next scheduled service.
6. Read and interpret construction drawings and plans to verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
7. Work efficiently in various weather conditions and challenging environments.
8. Maintain clear and effective communication with foremen, crew members, and other operators.
9. Be willing to work overtime and extended hours when required to meet project schedules.
10. Be dependable, punctual, and team-oriented, contributing to a positive and productive work environment.
11. Must be at least 18 years of age due to the nature of the working environment.
12. Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
13. Must pass an initial hire and random drug screening in accordance with company policy.
Position Requirements:
1. Minimum of two (2) years of verifiable experience operating heavy equipment such as dozers, loaders, excavators, and motor graders in a construction environment.
2. Valid Texas Class C Driver License required; Class A CDL preferred. Must maintain an acceptable driving record.
3. Willingness and ability to travel to different job sites and work extended hours—including nights, weekends, and holidays—as required by project demands.
4. Solid understanding of construction tools, materials, and safety equipment, with a demonstrated commitment to following OSHA and company safety procedures.
5. Ability to read, interpret, and communicate project drawings, grade stakes, and safety regulations relevant to heavy equipment operation and job site standards.
6. Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate with ground crews, supervisors, and other operators.
7. Physically capable of performing all job duties, including climbing on/off machinery, lifting up to 50 lbs, and conducting routine equipment inspections.
8. Ability to work efficiently in challenging conditions, including extreme heat, confined equipment cabs, and uneven terrain.
9. Dependable and punctual, with a professional attitude and flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and schedules.
10. Must successfully complete all pre-employment and ongoing verifications, including drug and alcohol testing, reference checks, criminal background screening, and motor vehicle record (MVR) review.
