Description:
The Staff Accountant is a key member of the Finance Department responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial information. This position supports the Controller and works collaboratively across departments to perform core accounting functions, including month-end closing, account reconciliations, accounts receivable management, and financial reporting. The Staff Accountant also contributes to process improvement initiatives, system optimization, and adherence to internal controls and GAAP standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Accounting and Reporting
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closing procedures to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries.
- Reconcile all balance sheet and income statement accounts to the general ledger.
- Maintain and reconcile fixed asset schedules, including amortization and depreciation.
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for internal management reporting and annual audits.
- Assist the Controller with financial analysis and variance reporting.
Process Improvement and Internal Controls
- Identify and recommend enhancements to accounting processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Assist with system upgrades, implementations, and data integrity initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Support documentation and audit readiness of internal control processes.
Compliance and Reporting
- Reconcile and prepare monthly union reporting in accordance with contractual obligations.
- Ensure all accounting activities are performed in compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and external regulations
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the construction, service, or manufacturing industries.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in accounting and ERP systems (Spectrum/ARP experience preferred).
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
