About This Position

Description:

At SPL, the work you do matters. Our teams provide trusted energy and environmental testing and measurement solutions that protect communities, support critical infrastructure, and safeguard the environment. With a nationwide footprint and opportunities for growth across multiple locations and disciplines, SPL is a place where you can build a career while making a real-world impact.

We’re seeking a driven, high-energy Business Development Representative (BDR) to generate new business and accelerate growth across our environmental testing and laboratory services.

In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of driving new business—building pipeline, developing relationships, and creating opportunities across environmental laboratory testing services. You’ll engage environmental consultants, engineering firms, municipalities, utilities, and industrial clients to uncover needs tied to compliance, monitoring, and remediation projects. Through consistent outbound outreach and follow-up, you’ll generate and qualify new opportunities while partnering with internal teams to convert interest into revenue and growth.

What You’ll Do

  • Generate new business through outbound prospecting (cold calling, email campaigns, LinkedIn outreach, lead generation)
  • Identify and develop opportunities for environmental analytical testing and laboratory services, including water testing, wastewater testing, soil testing, groundwater analysis, and air testing
  • Engage clients to support environmental compliance, regulatory testing (EPA/state), monitoring programs, site assessments, and remediation projects
  • Qualify leads based on sampling requirements, project scope, turnaround times (TAT), and current laboratory service providers
  • Communicate laboratory capabilities, analytical methods (EPA, ASTM), QA/QC standards, and data reporting deliverables
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings, passing qualified sales opportunities and leads to Account Executives
  • Maintain accurate tracking of sales activity, pipeline, leads, and opportunities in Salesforce CRM or similar systems
  • Collaborate with laboratory operations, project managers, and technical teams to align on testing capabilities, capacity, and service offerings
  • Consistently meet or exceed sales KPIs, outbound activity metrics, lead generation goals, and pipeline targets
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:

What We’re Looking For

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field strongly preferred
  • Proven experience in sales, business development, or customer-facing roles, ideally within environmental services, environmental testing, laboratory services, engineering, industrial services, or technical industry
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and other basic computer applications
  • Familiarity with CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce), LinkedIn, and sales outreach platforms preferred
  • Exposure to environmental analytical testing, water/wastewater testing, soil, groundwater, or air testing, or environmental regulatory programs (EPA/state) is a plus

What We Offer

  • Competitive base compensation + performance-based incentives
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Employer-paid life, AD&D, and disability insurance
  • Generous paid time off, sick leave, and paid holidays
  • Paid parental leave
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Tuition reimbursement and professional development

Schedule & Work Environment

  • Full-time, remote position
  • Ability to work outside of scheduled hours as needed to meet business needs
  • Frequent in-territory travel by car, including extended periods of sitting
  • Occasional overnight travel (up to 10%) for regional meetings, client engagements, or industry events
