This role is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations across both U.S. and U.K. workforces within a fast-paced, highly regulated environment. You will play a critical part in maintaining payroll integrity, supporting month-end close processes, and ensuring adherence to all applicable tax and statutory requirements. The position combines hands-on payroll accounting with analytical review, audit preparation, and cross-functional collaboration across Finance, HR, and Operations. You will manage payroll reconciliations, reporting, and compliance activities while also contributing to process improvements and system enhancements. This is a detail-driven role where precision, confidentiality, and strong technical accounting knowledge are essential. You will also act as a key point of contact for payroll-related inquiries and support continuous optimization of payroll systems and workflows. Your work will directly impact financial accuracy, compliance readiness, and employee experience.
- Process bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly payroll accurately and on schedule for U.S. and U.K. employees
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, local, and UK payroll tax laws and statutory requirements
- Prepare, review, and file payroll tax documentation including W-2s, W-3s, and quarterly filings
- Reconcile payroll accounts including wages, taxes, deductions, benefits, and related liabilities
- Manage payroll accounting activities including journal entries, reconciliations, reporting, and month-end close
- Support payroll data accuracy in collaboration with HR and Finance teams
- Assist with timesheet review and processing in coordination with program and finance stakeholders
- Lead or support audit processes including 401(k), payroll, and workers’ compensation audits
- Monitor regulatory changes and ensure payroll processes remain compliant and up to date
- Support payroll system enhancements, testing, and continuous process improvement initiatives
- Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and confidentiality of employee payroll data
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3–5 years of experience in payroll accounting, payroll tax, or related financial operations role
- Strong knowledge of U.S. payroll tax regulations and multi-state payroll processes
- Familiarity with UK payroll compliance requirements is highly preferred
- Experience with payroll systems such as Rippling and/or Tilt
- Proficiency in ERP and accounting systems such as NetSuite or Deltek Costpoint
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP principles
- Advanced Excel skills with strong analytical capabilities
- Experience managing deadlines in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Bonus: experience supporting audits, payroll implementations, or automation initiatives
