About This Position

  • DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION
    • The referral coordinator in neurosciences coordinates the collection, scheduling, and process of the referrals entering neurology, neurosurgery, pain, and physical medicine services. Responsible for maintaining accurate referral tracking, updated HER with referral information, and coordinating scheduling for various neuroscience services including neurology, pain, physical medicine, and neurosurgery. Utilizes a variety of clinical sources, including coordination with primary care offices and other referral sources. Retrieves, compiles, and enters referral data into selected computer programs EHR to ensure data is present for a physician scheduled to see the patient. Facilitates the referral process to meet the varied needs of not only the patient, but also the referral source and agency personnel for individuals needing neuroscience services. Develops appropriate data collection forms as needed. Interacts with physicians and other involved individuals to expedite the input of referral information required. The role assists in the identification of opportunities for improvement in patient flow, including the goal to eventually streamline referrals to an electronic process.
  • POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)
    • Experience:
      • Two years of full-time experience in a medical office setting. Experience with clinical coordination, patient satisfaction and customer improvement is required. Must have proficiency in MS Office: Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Working knowledge of EHR systems.
    • Education and Training:
      • Health care experience in intake, referral and care coordination. Must be familiar with electronic health records, health insurance coverage requirements and medical terminology is required. General computer skills are also required.
    • License, Certification & Registration:
      • None
    • Other Requirements:
      • Demonstrated evidence of dependability in maintaining a work schedule.
      • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with a variety of people within and outside the agency.
      • Ability to manage time productively.
      • Ability to concentrate and work productively in spite of interruptions.
      • Ability to work independently, problem-solve and follow through with solutions.
      • Demonstrated understanding of patient care processes.
      • Flexibility to meet departmental priorities and cross train as needed to other clerical areas.
      • Participation in ongoing training related to electronic health records and processes.
