About the job

Floating Retail & Post Office Assistant

Support our London branches and help keep our teams thriving!

About Us

UOE has been helping people get things done since 1983, and today, we’re one of the UK’s leading independent stationery and Post Office retailers. Our stores are busy community hubs where we provide expert service, high‑quality stationery, and essential Post Office services.

Following the takeover of 30 new Post Offices, we’re growing fast across London and the Home Counties, and we’re building a new team of floating leaders to keep every branch running smoothly. If you enjoy variety, thrive under pressure, and love helping teams succeed, we’d love to meet you.

About the Role

As a Floating Retail & Post Office Assistant, you will support branches across all of London, providing essential front‑line cover where it’s needed most. This role is designed for someone who enjoys variety, adapts quickly, and thrives in a customer‑facing environment.

You will receive a minimum of 2 hours’ notice before being deployed to a store, and travel outside Zone 3 is reimbursed.

Reporting to the Retail Trainer, you will focus on customer service, counter operations, and ensuring smooth daily running of the branch.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide counter coverage across London & Home Counties branches to support teams with customer flow and service levels.

  • Deliver friendly, professional, and efficient customer service at all times.

  • Assist with daily operational tasks, including replenishment, tidying, product presentation, and maintaining a clean, welcoming environment.

  • Support Post Office counter transactions, working accurately and confidently within our procedures.

  • Assist with basic cash handling and till operations in line with branch standards.

  • Build working knowledge of each store’s layout, processes, and local customer needs.

  • Adapt quickly to new teams and environments, maintaining a positive and proactive approach.

  • Identify and report any operational concerns or practices that do not meet UOE standards (no corrective responsibility, reporting only).

  • Complete a short contact report after each visit, noting:

    • What went well

    • Any challenges observed

    • Any urgent risks or support needed

What We’re Looking For

  • Retail and Post Office experience

  • A friendly, confident communicator with excellent customer service skills.

  • Someone reliable, flexible, and comfortable traveling across London.

  • A quick learner who can adapt to new environments and processes.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, especially in Post Office transactions.

  • Ability to remain calm and helpful in busy periods.

  • Right to work in the UK for at least 12 months from start date.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 12kg.

  • Able to pass an enhanced DBS check.

What We Offer

  • Full‑time, permanent role with competitive pay & government‑recommended pension

  • Comprehensive training from the Retail Trainer and Head of Retail

  • A friendly, supportive team and a positive working culture

  • Travel reimbursement for trips outside Zone 3

  • At least 2 hours’ notice before deployment

  • Weekend shifts required (Saturday & Sunday)

  • Opportunities to progress into senior store roles, including Team Leader positions

Our Culture
