MAJOR FUNCTION:
The SPD Processing Technician (Certified) works independently to clean, decontaminate, and assemble all reusable instrumentation and patient care equipment. This position prepares equipment for sterilization and operates cleaning and sterilizing equipment according to established departmental procedures. The Technician prepares and monitors sterilized instruments. This position assists in maintaining accurate inventories of supplies, replenishes and maintains stock levels. This position performs periodic physical inventories as directed and maintains a clean and safe workplace. This position completes all other duties as assigned.
This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.
- Collecting used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination
- Responsible for decontamination and cleaning of all equipment and instrumentation; ensures cleanliness and sterility of all instruments
- Preparing and packing decontaminated supplies for sterilization
- Manually cleaning supplies of contaminants, removing waste matter, and operating and maintaining decontamination equipment.
- Monitoring and operating sterilization equipment.
- Examining supplies meticulously to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized.
- Testing and reporting any issues or problems with the sterilization equipment.
- Preparing and delivering all necessary equipment and instruments for all service lines
- Evaluates functioning of equipment; reports malfunction of equipment and instrumentation and follows through to ensure appropriate repairs and completes and maintenance performed
- Accurately assembles instruments sets based on category; effectively uses materials and supplies to assemble instrument sets and minimize waste.
- Appropriately prepares and packages single instrument items.
- Stores, delivers and manages sterile supplies using aseptic technique.
- Responsible for maintaining a safe environment and work habits.
- Uses equipment and instrumentation properly to prevent damage.
- The technician will travel as needed to deliver items to appropriate locations.
- Techs must have a high level of integrity by following all internal procedures and external regulatory processes
- Maintaining records of sterilization procedures, sterilized items, equipment maintenance, and supplies.
- Controlling the inventory, reordering supplies, and checking expiration dates.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Certified Registered Central Services Technician certification required as mandated by NJDOH. Technicians are responsible for maintaining SPD certification yearly.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of one year experience with Sterile Processing, healthcare related field is preferred. The potential employee must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
