About This Position
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Cardiovascular Technologist III is a Cardiovascular Technologist II with extensive knowledge and training in one or more of the following areas: cardiac procedures and processes; vascular procedures and processes; electrophysiology procedures and processes (see addendums). The Cardiovascular Technologist III demonstrates in-depth knowledge and understanding of their area of expertise including patient preparation, equipment operation and support, maintaining equipment inventory and acting as a super-user in training and troubleshooting equipment software and problems. Provides education for patient/families and other staff members as needed.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

3. Uses recording screens and analyzes recorded angios.
4. Demonstrates competency in the use of catheters.
5. Acts as system super-user and engages in equipment troubleshooting interventions.
6. Prepares patients for procedures.
7. Sets up procedural room and equipment.
8. Acts as a system super user and engages in equipment troubleshooting interventions.
9. *Performs therapeutic interventions, and consistent with Cath lab procedures, demonstrates competencies with consideration given to risk management and infection control procedures.
10. *Assembles, operates and troubleshoots equipment needed for various procedures in the Invasive Cardiology Lab; takes appropriate action where needed.
11. *Functions in the lead scrub role by preparing, organizing and anticipating needed instruments, supplies and equipment for safe patient care and operative procedure and other activities as directed by provider.
12. May apply skin sealant and steri-strips as part of the dressing after skin has been closed; will not do any incision closures.
13. *Acts as lead technologist in the procedure area/room and direct assisting staff.
14. Assists with patient/family education pre- and post-procedure.
15. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
16. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
17. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of radiologic and cardiovascular procedures, equipment and reporting systems.
2. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
3. Skill in the interpretation, operation and user maintenance of cardiovascular equipment and procedural materials.
4. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment related to changing patient needs including working with patients with acute, chronic and complex disease processes and those who are dying.
5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff, volunteer and ancillary departments including diverse patient populations.
6. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
7. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
8. Ability to practice proper body mechanics to ensure personal and customer/patient safety.
9. Ability to provide training and education information to patients, peers and physicians related to vascular procedures and follow-up.
10. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.
11. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required to have at least one (1) of the following:
* Associates degree in Cardiovascular Technology or allied health field of study
* Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and valid state license to practice respiratory therapy
* Minimum of three (3) years on-the-job training in invasive cardiology in association with Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification
* Graduate from a school of radiologic technology with current certification or eligibility for certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and a valid state medical radiographer license. Cardiovascular or Vascular Interventional certification preferred.
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Demonstrates competency in at least one sub-specialty area as determined by Manager. Minimum of three (3) years Cath lab experience required.
