SUMMARY
SHRM’s paid internship program enables students to gain valuable real-world experience through tailored assignments in their areas of interest and fields of study. Students will be tasked with team-specific projects and tasks and will participate in professional development projects and events to prepare them for their future careers. This role provides research support to SHRM market research teams in survey research, data analysis, research communication, and data visualization. The intern will provide support for ongoing research projects. Specific responsibilities may include survey design, survey programming, data analysis, and literature review.
This role is well-suited for students interested in applying social science research methods and analytics to real-world organizational and workforce challenges.
This is a paid internship starting at $20.00/Hour.
This is 10-weeks summer internship from June 2, 2026 - August 6, 2026
Key Responsibilities
• Support the design, programming, and analysis of survey-based research using platforms such as Qualtrics.
• Assist with data analysis and interpretation, including cross-tabulations, trend analysis, and summarizing key findings from survey and customer feedback data.
• Apply AI-assisted text analytics and natural language processing (NLP) techniques to analyze open-ended responses, identify themes, and detect patterns in unstructured data.
• Conduct secondary research and environmental scans to support SHRM’s research initiatives and thought leadership.
• Support Voice of the Customer (VoC) research programs, including analysis of sentiment, customer feedback, and emerging themes across multiple feedback channels.
• Collaborate with the research team to prepare presentations, reports, and executive summaries, translating data into actionable insights.
Key Qualifications / Skills
• Quantitative and analytical skills – Ability to work with survey data and statistical outputs using tools such as Excel, SPSS, R, or similar tools to identify patterns, trends, and insights.
• Data visualization and storytelling – Experience or interest in building dashboards and communicating insights using tools such as Power BI, Excel, or other analytics platforms.
• Research and critical thinking – Ability to conduct secondary research, literature reviews, and competitive intelligence to support organizational and market research initiatives.
• AI and text analytics familiarity – Experience or interest in using AI, natural language processing (NLP), or machine learning tools to analyze open-ended text, identify themes, or detect patterns in qualitative data.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills – Ability to synthesize complex data and research findings into clear, concise summaries and actionable insights for internal stakeholders.
Ability to effectively leverage artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies to streamline workflows, enhance productivity, and improve overall work quality
Preferred Area of Study
Students currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a social science, business, or analytics-related field, including:

Physical Requirements
This position operates in a typical office environment and requires the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical requirements may include:

Work environment
Hybrid Schedule (3 Days In-Office / 2 Days Remote):
This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with Tuesday through Thursday in office and Monday and Friday remote. Employees must be available during standard business hours, with core hours beginning between 8:00–9:00 a.m. and concluding between 5:00–6:00 p.m. local time.
