About This Position
Basic Purpose of the Job:
Under general direction, performs technical duties and administrative responsibilities in support of the City’s Building Services Division within the Community Development Department; provides public assistance in building and development related matters.

Job Requirements:
Moderate physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 20 pounds; frequent lifting, carrying, walking and standing, hand/eye coordination for operation of personal computer; vision for reading and preparing written reports and documents; frequent speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communications with employees and citizens. Works primarily in clean, comfortable environment. Occasional driving and walking in inclement weather. Occasional minimal exposure to dust or other air particulates. Subject to interruptions and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.

- Provide information to the public/permit applicants regarding building permit requirements, inspection, and general requirements of the permit process. Respond to questions and communicate procedures and regulations for building permit applications, building codes, zoning codes and other related ordinances and local laws. Research information for customers as required.
- Process permit applications and plans; determine processing needs for projects. Receive applications for residential and commercial building, temporary building, fence, gas, mechanical, solar, roofing, and plumbing permits. Review permit documents to verify accuracy and completeness of information.

- Issue building, plumbing, gas, mechanical, solar, roofing, temporary structure, and fence permits. Issue plumber and gasfitter licenses. Maintain current fee schedules and calculate fees based on those established fee schedules.
- Schedule building inspections. Verify projects have required submittal documentation including gas and plumbing permits and engineering foundation letters. Communicate any missing details with contractors or applicants. Create and mail permit expiration letters.
- Prepare monthly and yearly reports on construction activity. Prepare and maintain presentations for such reports. Post information to City’s website.
- Assist in scheduling meetings for Building Division staff. Assist in Planning Commission meetings in absence of Deputy City Clerk or other Community Development Department staff, including preparation and distribution of agendas and packets, transcribing meeting minutes, and insuring public noticing for meetings is met.
- Provide technical and clerical support to Building Services Division and Community Development staff, commissions, boards, and City Council. Assist with documentation for projects and presentations. Assist with workshops, code updates, forms, and budget.
- Maintain permitting software database of all permits issued. Maintain all old records including documents, plats, and files that pre-date permitting software, and add them to the permitting software system. Create and maintain systems for locating old records. Research records requests according to the Open Records Act.
- Establish and maintain manual and computerized files and/or information to other departments as required including county assessor requests and public records requests. Research, collect and compile information in order to establish and maintain manual and computerized records. Create and maintain updates to department forms and post on website.
- Participate and be staff liaison for the Community Development Department on the City's Accessibility Committee. Assist with website updates and maintenance for the Community Development Department.

Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required, associates degree in business related studies from an accredited college preferred.
- Two (2) years prior experience in high traffic customer service and front counter work required.
- Strong computer skills including MS office and Google Workspace products and ability to utilize a terminal for survey computation and digital mapping.
- Familiarity with and ability to utilize permitting software and GIS based digital mapping.
- Current Colorado driver’s license with acceptable record.
