Position Description:
Grounded in innovation and collaboration, the newly established Center for Professional Development offers learning experiences, institutes, and seminars to support and advance the work of faculty, staff and administrators at the College. Initial programs and activities will focus on the scholarship of teaching and learning, innovative student affairs practices, and leadership development, with the overarching goal of becoming a comprehensive resource hub for the entire college. Ongoing needs analysis of the College community will further guide the Center’s learning activities.
Under the direction of the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs/Provost, the founding Senior Director of the Center will consult with an advisory committee and engage college leadership and employee groups in the planning, selection, and delivery of program offerings. This position will be responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction, overall coordination, and resource management for centralized professional development structure on campus. The Senior Director is responsible for design, planning, implementation and evaluation of various programs to address the College’s professional development priorities for faculty, staff, and administrators.
Essential Duties/Functions:
- Manage day-to-day operations, programming, and scheduling of professional development (PD) activities, ensuring alignment with the College’s mission and strategic initiatives.
- Develop and implement the Professional Development Plan, collaborating with governance committees and college leadership to assess and address professional growth needs for faculty, staff, and administrators. Design, plan and implement various programs to address college, division, and departmental training needs.
- Collaborate with existing centers on campus providing professional development to develop a universal professional development calendar of professional learning events, ensuring compliance with state and institutional requirements.
- In conjunction with the College governance Professional Development Committee, plan and implement various programs and events throughout the year.
- Develop and manage the professional development budget and allocate resources to support institutional priorities.
- Create and maintain an online and on-ground resource hub that supports the professional learning needs for faculty, staff and administrators.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of professional development programs through data collection, feedback, and surveys.
- Supervise and train assigned staff, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver workshops and training.
- Stay current with the field and maintain connections with regional and national professional development organizations to bring innovative practices to the College.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in higher education or related field.
- Project management, supervisory, and/or leadership experience in higher education.
- Higher education teaching experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse student, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Proven track record of planning and executing large-scale projects and initiatives, including the ability to manage budgets, delegate, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience designing, offering, and assessing professional development programs, activities, trainings, and/or workshops focused on needs of faculty, staff and administrators.
- Superior interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication.
- Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion, tact, and confidentiality.
- Proven ability to collaborate across departments and to create sustainable relationships with internal and external constituencies.
- Demonstrated experience effectively engaging with community partners to meet the College’s professional development’s priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in higher education or related field.
- Community college work experience.
- Design and delivery of comprehensive professional development experience.
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $130,000-$140,000 Actual Salary Will Be Commensurate with Education and Experience
Non-Unit Professional. Full State Benefited position.
