About This Position
Essential Functions
- Monitors and records data from various instrumentation and equipment to ensure proper biological and chemical treatment and flow rates of the water or wastewater plant systems.
- Collects samples for analysis, including water quality, chlorine levels and solids determination.
- Maintains records that document compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
- Maintains records of water quality and other indicators.
- Operates a variety of equipment as part of the plant treatment processes, including filters, pumps, compressors, blowers and feeders.
- Monitors the indicators at the plants and make adjustments as necessary.
- Reads meters and gauges to ensure plant equipment is working properly.
- Adjusts chemical feed rates and treatment plant processes, such as chlorine, being added to the water based on test results.
- Performs plant maintenance such as cleaning and backwashing intake screens, cleaning and calibrating chemical feeders and assisting with cleaning clarifier basins.
- Prepares chemical mixes and performs chemical feeds.
- Use computerized systems to monitor plant processes.
- Notifies maintenance of concerns and assists with diagnosing, problems with mechanical or electrical equipment as necessary.
- Performs routine building cleaning and grounds maintenance, including mopping, bush trimming, lawn mowing and similar activities.
- Reports to work for on-call after hours needs, as assigned.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor when dealing with the public.
- Ability to take control of situations in a responsible manner.
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
- Ability to work the allocated hours of the position and ability to work flexible hours to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays due to adverse weather conditions, construction projects, or other emergency service.
- High School Diploma/equivalent.
- Previous experience in water or wastewater plant operations preferred.
- High School Diploma/equivalent with one (1) year experience in water or wastewater plant operations.
- Grade III or IV Plant Operator certification in one (1) discipline (Water or Wastewater).
- High School Diploma/equivalent with three (3) years’ experience in water and wastewater plant operations.
- Grade IV Plant Operator certification in either water or wastewater treatment; and Grade III Plant Operator certification in other discipline.
