Deputy Chief at City of Beloit – Beloit, Wisconsin

The City of Beloit Police Department is seeking an experienced law enforcement professional to serve as Deputy Chief. This position is responsible for the planning, organizing, commanding, directing, controlling, and overall administration of an assigned division of the Police Department, including the Patrol Division and the Administration and Support Services Division.

The Deputy Chief is responsible for the development of long and short range goals and objectives with plans to achieve results. The Deputy Chief assesses operational, personnel, budgetary and complex technical situations, draws conclusions and makes decisions and/or recommendations that are logical, rational, supported by the data and appropriate to the situation. The Deputy Chief should display problem solving initiative, relay orders and messages from the Chief, supervise officers and staff in performance of duties, prepare and communicate orders/directives to subordinates. This position assumes the role of Acting Chief of Police in the absence of the Chief.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be a certified law enforcement officer with the State of Wisconsin or have the ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire and maintain such certification, including required training or statutory requirements.
2. Possession of a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
3. Possess and retain the ability to lawfully possess a firearm.
4. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College/University with major course work in police science, criminal justice or related field.
5. A minimum of five (5) years of responsible and varied managerial experience within a law enforcement agency. Such experience would normally be gained after considerable experience in progressively responsible line and administrative positions.
6. Advanced Police Executive training such as FBI Academy, Northwestern School of Police Staff & Command or Southern Police Institute is preferred.
7. Successful completion of supervisory and command level training, including, but not limited to, advance legal updates, critical incident command, and ethics training, or the ability to successfully complete such training or other required supervisory or leadership training within 18 months of promotion/hire.
8. Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position may also be considered.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. U.S. citizenship at time of hire.
2. Must not have been convicted of a felony (unless pardoned by the Governor of the State).
3. Must not have a conviction record or pending charge which substantially relates to the work of a law enforcement officer.
