About This Position

Description:

The National WWII Museum is currently seeking a Summer Camp Coordinator. The Summer Camp Coordinator will assist in overseeing the final preparations of and execution for The National WWII Museum’s summer camp program in June and July. The Summer Camp Coordinator will collaborate closely with the Youth and Family Engagement Manager, along with Summer Camp Lead Instructors, Summer Camp Interns, theater camp contractors, museum staff, and camp parents, to ensure a smooth, engaging, and fun camp experience for all participants.

Requirements:
  • Develop and prepare activities and materials for the after-care program and serve as the program facilitator, ensuring alignment with IMLS grant guidelines.
  • Gather and prepare camp materials, aligning with established themes and incorporating new ideas from camp staff.
  • Assist in the daily operations of the camp, ensuring programs run smoothly and safely, including off-site field trips.
  • Communicate any needs, issues, and concerns, from parents, campers, instructors, and interns to the Youth and Family Engagement Manager.
  • Support the onboarding process for instructors and interns to ensure a smooth transition into the camp season alongside the Youth and Family Engagement Manager.
  • Ensure safe and respectful movement of campers across the museum and field trip sites including both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Lead a summer camp class in the event an instructor is not present.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as needed for education and public programming

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, museum studies, theater, recreation management, or a related field; or equivalent experience in youth program management.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience managing or coordinating youth programs, camps, or educational initiatives outside of a traditional classroom.
  • Strong understanding of child safety practices and youth development principles.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, timelines, and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and email correspondence.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, solve problems quickly, and model professionalism in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
  • Comfortable supervising children in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Preferred

  • Previous experience leading programming in a museum, camp, or informal educational setting focused on history or the arts.
  • Knowledge of or interest in World War II history and museum education.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the start of camp).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft365 and Google Workspace and other digital tools for planning and communication.

Availability, Schedule, and Location

  • Beginning May 27, the position starts for camp preparations and execution through July 18 with an anticipated a daily schedule of 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. during camp days (June 8-26 and July 6-18) and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on administrative days.
  • Wednesday, July 1 through Friday, July 3 will be off days for camp staff to reset before the Bob and Dolores Hope Theater Camp begins.
