Lead Assistant Instructor (Seasonal)

Department: Youth & Family Services

Program: Summer Enrichment Program

Reports To: Program Manager, Site Coordinator, and Assigned Instructor(s)



Position Summary

The Lead Assistant Instructor supports the delivery of educational and enrichment programming within the Youth & Family Services Department. This position provides direct instructional support and serves as a team lead among Assistant Instructors to ensure consistent, safe, and high-quality program implementation.

The Lead Assistant Instructor works under the supervision of assigned Instructor(s) and Program leadership, assisting with lesson execution, participant supervision, and daily operational coordination.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities Instructional Support
Assist assigned Instructor(s) with delivering structured summer enrichment curriculum.Support implementation of daily lesson plans and activity rotations.Provide small-group and individualized support to reinforce instruction.Prepare materials, supplies, and learning stations prior to instruction.Maintain classroom structure during transitions and activity changes.
Leadership & Coordination
Serve as a lead among Assistant Instructors, helping coordinate daily assignments and supervision zones.Communicate daily updates and concerns to the assigned Instructor and Site Coordinator.Reinforce classroom management expectations established by the Instructor.Escalate behavioral or safety concerns appropriately.

Supervision & Safety
Maintain active supervision of participants during instructional blocks, recreation,

lunch, transitions, field trips, and Days in the Park (DIP).

Conduct headcounts and attendance verification throughout the day.Ensure compliance with safety procedures and participant behavioral standards.Assist with emergency procedures and incident documentation when required.
Days in the Park (DIP) & Special Events
Assist with setup, supervision, and breakdown of DIP activities.Monitor assigned groups during outdoor and off-site programming.Support hydration monitoring and heat safety procedures.Ensure supervision ratios are maintained at all times.
Administrative Support
Maintain attendance records and activity documentation.Support supply inventory and equipment organization.Assist with daily setup and clean-up of program spaces.



Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age.High school diploma or equivalent required.Some college coursework in Education, Child Development, Social Services, or

related field preferred.

Minimum 1–2 years of experience working with children in an educational, camp, or youth program setting.Demonstrated leadership ability or experience directing peers preferred.CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to program start).

Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move actively throughout the program day.Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.Ability to supervise and engage with participants in both indoor and outdoor settings.
