The Lead Mitigation Technician oversees water, fire, and mold mitigation projects from start to finish. This role ensures all work is completed in compliance with IICRC standards, company procedures, and insurance program guidelines.
This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for managing field operations, guiding and developing technicians, maintaining accurate documentation, and delivering a high level of customer service throughout the project lifecycle.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Management & Execution
- Respond to and manage water, fire, and mold mitigation projects under the direction of the Mitigation Manager.
- Oversee all phases of mitigation projects from initial inspection through completion.
- Conduct site inspections to assess the category and extent of damage and develop mitigation plans.
- Perform moisture readings, moisture mapping, and sketching to document affected areas.
- Develop scopes of work, including equipment needs and drying strategies.
- Complete water extraction using truck-mounted and portable equipment.
- Set up, monitor, and adjust drying systems (air movers, dehumidifiers, air scrubbers, containment).
- Track temperature, humidity, and grain depression to ensure effective drying and document daily progress.
- Perform controlled demolition according to scope, safety standards, and PPE requirements.
- Apply antimicrobial, disinfectant, and deodorization treatments per industry standards.
- Install containment systems to prevent cross-contamination and secondary damage.
- Assist with final cleaning and prepare projects for reconstruction handoff.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, train, and mentor field technicians to ensure quality, efficiency, and compliance.
- Provide hands-on coaching in equipment usage, field procedures, and documentation.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
Documentation & Compliance
- Ensure all job documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted on time.
- Capture detailed photos and maintain records before, during, and after mitigation using required systems (e.g., DASH, CompanyCam, MICA).
- Obtain required documentation including customer signatures, work authorizations, and access permissions.
- Maintain compliance with IICRC standards, company policies, and insurance program requirements.
Communication & Customer Service
- Communicate professionally with homeowners, tenants, property managers, and insurance representatives.
- Coordinate with internal teams (Mitigation Manager, Coordinator, Field Supervisor) on scheduling and job updates.
- Ensure clear expectations and a high level of customer satisfaction throughout the project.
Safety, Equipment & Jobsite Management
- Enforce jobsite safety standards, including PPE and proper containment procedures.
- Identify and report hazards (structural, electrical, environmental) to management immediately.
- Maintain clean, organized, and secure job sites while protecting unaffected areas.
- Ensure proper use, care, and maintenance of company vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Maintain accountability for vehicle cleanliness, tool inventory, and field readiness.
- Support emergency response efforts, including after-hours and on-call rotations.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of IICRC S500 and S520 standards.
- Knowledge of drying systems, air movement, dehumidification, and containment setup.
- Familiarity with insurance program requirements, including documentation and response times.
- Ability to read and interpret sketches, moisture maps, and drying logs.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- IICRC certifications (WRT, ASD, AMRT) preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in water, fire, or mold mitigation.
- Experience leading or training a field team.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (occasionally more with assistance).
- Comfortable working in confined spaces, elevated areas, and various environmental conditions.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and participation in an on-call rotation.
