About This Position
Important Notice-
This is a full‑time paid summer internship within our Surgical Services Department.
This internship offers a unique, hands‑on introduction to the world of surgical services. As a Surgical Services Aide in the Operating Room (OR), you will gain real exposure to the fast‑paced surgical environment while supporting essential OR operations. This experience is designed for students who are curious about surgery and interested in exploring the wide variety of roles that make the surgical department run smoothly.
About the Position:
This position is part of the Summer Healthcare Internship Program and provides hands‑on experience within the Surgical Services Department. As a Surgical Services Intern, you will support the Operating Room team by assisting with room setup and turnover, supply and equipment preparation, environmental cleaning, and general surgical support tasks. You will learn key safety and infection‑control practices while working alongside OR staff. Interns will also have opportunities to observe surgical cases and shadow various roles within the surgical team.
What we are looking for:
Education Eligibility:
- Must have completed their junior or senior year of high school and be on track to graduate.
- Postsecondary applicants must be enrolled in a Minnesota educational institution or be a Minnesota resident enrolled in an out‑of‑state program.
- Must be actively enrolled in a two‑ or four‑year healthcare degree program with the intention of completing the program.
- Postsecondary students who will graduate at any time in 2026 are not eligible for this internship.
Skills & Aptitudes:
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Basic knowledge of hygiene, safety, bloodborne pathogens, and infection‑control practices
- Good judgment, flexibility, problem‑solving, and attention to detail
