Position Overview

The Business Development Manager — Industrial Accounts is responsible for building new customer relationships and expanding D.C. Taylor Co.’s presence in industrial, food processing, agriculture, manufacturing, and related facility environments. This role focuses on proactive prospecting, customer discovery, and long-term roof program development—positioning D. C. Taylor as a strategic partner for facility leaders who value planning, safety, asset management, and integrated project delivery over low-bid procurement.

Rather than competing on price alone, this role engages plant and facility managers to diagnose roof-related needs, develop facility-specific programs, and deliver comprehensive roofing solutions through roof management plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead business development and prospecting in targeted industrial verticals
  • Conduct customer discovery and develop customized roof management programs
  • Manage CRM, sales pipeline, and opportunity tracking with discipline and accuracy
  • Perform roof surveys, inspections, and support technical solution development
  • Coordinate with estimating and operations to develop and deliver proposals
  • Serve as a cross-functional liaison with sales, service, safety, and operations teams
  • Uphold safety standards and pursue ongoing professional development

First-Year Success Measures

  • Number of new target companiesidentifiedand qualified
  • Number of facilities added to CRM with complete stakeholder data
  • Number of first meetings and discovery appointments with plant/facility managers
  • Number of roof program discussions initiated
  • Number of roof surveys and inspections completed (with internal support)
  • Number and value of qualified opportunities advanced to proposal
  • Number and value of service, repair, Safe Roof audits, and reroof projects won
  • CRM completeness, pipeline hygiene, and forecasting accuracy
  • Adherence to account/territory boundaries and collaboration expectations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in commercial/industrial roofing, building envelope, facility services, or related sales/business development
  • Ability to build rapport with plant managers, maintenance leaders, and technical stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of roof systems, conditions, repairs, and reroof planning—or the ability to learn quickly
  • Proficiencywith CRM, Microsoft Office, and field documentation tools
  • Strong verbal, written, organizational, and follow-up skills
  • Willingness to travel up to 50%, including short-notice site visits
  • Ability to work cross-functionally across sales, estimating, service, safety, and operations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience calling on industrial, manufacturing, food, agriculture, or processing facilities
  • Experience with roof surveys, scope development, and consultative selling
  • Familiarity with project delivery methods and stakeholder mapping
  • Safety training or ability to discuss roof access, safety, and risk reduction
  • Construction or technical industry background
