The Life Enrichment Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating programs that support the health and wellness of seniors. All programming should coordinate with the interests, values, and beliefs of participants.

Casual - 15 hours a week.

Starting pay rate - $21.50/hour

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Meet with residents and program members to determine past and current interests and hobbies.
  • Plan and provide programming that includes but is not limited to physical (exercise), social, recreational, intellectual/educational, creative, entertainment, spiritual, service/volunteering programs, and special requests of the residents and members.
  • Arrange regularly scheduled outings. Transport residents safely, comfortably, and in a timely fashion. Always observe speed limits and safe driving practices. Follow the guidelines set forth by ESLC for vehicle operation and safety.
  • Coordinate special events for residents and members.
  • Ensure physical setup of all activities/programs, call to remind residents to attend, facilitate/attend programs, and clean up afterwards.
  • Prepare, promote/distribute, and communicate a monthly calendar of events and promotional flyers for special events in a timely manner.
  • Support all resident-run committees and organizations, including but not limited to the Resident Council and Resident Association.
  • Foster inclusivity by engaging participants and volunteers in the planning of programs.
  • Provide occasional program support at community partner sites (i.e. local senior centers).
  • Partner and foster relationships with various community organizations that will assist in program delivery.
  • Assist in the orientation of new residents.
  • Order and maintain supplies necessary for resident/member programs.
  • Maintain bulletin boards with various pictures of activities, health information and trivia.
  • Ability to facilitate virtual programs via Zoom or other virtual platforms for program facilitation or support to presenters.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient with current technology (streaming services, Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Adhere to budget for resident services.
  • Meet with other ESLC Life Enrichment Coordinators regularly to plan events.
  • Develop, facilitate, and provide health and wellness programming including programs designed specifically to address the health and well-being of older adults and people living with dementia, those at risk for dementia, and family caregivers.
  • Recognize symptoms of cognitive decline and refer residents and community members experiencing cognitive changes, along with their caregivers, to ESLC's Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience (GUIDE) program.
  • Recruit, train and lead volunteers to deliver and grow programs in designated markets. Provide ongoing technical assistance, coaching and support. Ensure accountability by regularly monitoring volunteer impact and taking action to improve volunteer performance.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid New York State driver’s license with a clean driving record and willingness to drive a van to transport residents.
  • Possess computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and knowledge of streaming services or other technology to support programs).
  • Evidence of creativity.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Ability to interact courteously and tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, vendors, and the public.
  • This position may/will be required to provide direct care or have access to resident property or belongings.

EDUCATION:

  • Associate degree in human services or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in planning and providing health and wellness activities for older adults is preferred.

Performing the duties of this job requires occasional walking and standing. The job also requires escorting and assisting residents on outings. Must be able to occasionally lift loads of 30 pounds without assistance, and the ability to sit, talk, and hear is required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
