Parking Enforcement/Traffic Attendant in Colonial Beach, Virginia at Town of Colonial Beach (VA)

Under the direct supervision of the Administrative Lieutenant, the Parking Enforcement/Traffic Attendantis responsible for ensuring that parking laws and ordinances are observed throughout the Town of Colonial Beach by conducting enforcement efforts and issuing notices of parking violations to vehicles found in violation of local or state laws. In addition, the Parking Enforcement/Traffic Attendant assists in the safe movement of pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic at school intersections by directing traffic and stopping vehicles as needed to allow children and adults to cross safely.

• Issuing notices of parking violations to vehicles observed to be in violation
• Monitoring vehicles parked in time limit zones to ensure vehicles are in compliance with law. This may require direct physical observation, electronically marking tires with chalk or other methods as needed to ensure compliance
• Offering court testimony in parking ticket cases; assists with prosecution of traffic violators by successfully completing department training; attending court; obtaining warrants on violators; and testifying in court on the facts of the case
• Maintaining accurate, up-to-date records of notices issued
• Entering records into a computer database
• Operating a motor vehicle and two-way radio
• Performing foot and vehicle patrols of Town streets and parking lots
• Performing trace direction and disabled motorist services as required
• Facilitating towing of violating vehicles and equipment as required and authorized by the law
• Directs traffic and crossing pedestrians by standing in intersections; monitoring traffic conditions; and stopping and starting traffic to allow pedestrians to safely cross
• Performs other additional duties as assigned

EDUCATION

High school diploma or GED

LICENSESANDCERTIFICATIONS

Valid Virginia driver’s license with the ability to meet and maintain Town insurability requirements

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is normally performed in an outdoor setting. The employee is regularly exposed to environmental factors and potentially dangerous conditions or abuse. Safety vest is required.

The employee shall adhere to Town of Colonial Beach policies regarding safety precautions and the use of safety equipment. If a safety concern arises, the employee must stop any life-threatening activity immediately and in other cases immediately inform the employee’s supervisor.
