About This Position
The ICU Clinical Supervisor provides frontline clinical leadership to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care within the Intensive Care Unit. In partnership with the Director, this role supports nursing staff development, clinical competency, performance management, and continuous quality improvement. The Clinical Supervisor promotes professional practice standards, patient safety, and regulatory compliance while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and clinical excellence consistent with the standards and values of Jones Memorial Hospital.
Major Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities
Provides clinical supervision, guidance, and support to ICU nursing and care staff.
Conducts patient rounds independently and collaboratively with physicians and interdisciplinary team members.
Supports safe, efficient clinical operations by ensuring appropriate skill mix, assignments, and adherence to evidence-based practice.
Reviews clinical care delivery and recommends care adjustments in accordance with established protocols and standards.
Reviews nursing documentation for quality and compliance; provides education and corrective guidance as needed.
Performs chart reviews, equipment audits, and other quality monitoring activities to support patient safety and regulatory readiness.
Identifies staff education needs and facilitates clinical training, skills development, and competency validation.
Participates in staff performance evaluations, coaching, and ongoing professional development.
Implements and supports new clinical practices, workflows, and standards of care.
Oversees safe patient handling practices, including lifting and mobility competencies.
Analyzes clinical or operational issues and collaborates with the Director on solutions and implementation.
Maintains a consistent presence on the unit, working directly with staff to support clinical excellence and team development.
Education and Licensure
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Bachelor’s degree preferred
Current New York State Registered Nurse licensure and registration required
BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
Telemetry certification required
Experience and Qualifications
Minimum of three (3) years of critical care experience as a Registered Nurse
Demonstrated leadership ability with strong communication and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to manage workload effectively while adapting to changing clinical demands
Strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and problem-solving skills
Experience supporting staff development, clinical competencies, and person-centered care
Proficiency with clinical documentation systems and standard computer applications
***Sign-On Bonus of up to $20,000, based on experience, for eligible applicants
