About This Position

Statement of Purpose:

Maintains all aspects of floor care including baseboards and walls within the hospital. Performs a variety of cleaning tasks to maintain the hospital in a sanitary, orderly and attractive condition.

MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Dust mop, auto scrub, wet and dry mops, waxes and buffs floors, carpet extracts, cleans baseboards using appropriate equipment and supplies. Must be capable of operating environmental service power equipment including the automatic floor scrubber, scrubbing buffers, high seed burnishing machines, vacuum cleaners, carpet extractor etc.
  2. Cleans and washes walls, windows, woodwork, furniture, floor coverings, fixtures, bath and restrooms, using appropriate solutions, replenishes supplies as needed; follows established aseptic techniques. Empties and cleans waste baskets and linen carts; relines containers with proper liners.
  3. Maintains equipment in good condition; reports mechanical failures or repairs needed in the building or equipment.
  4. Maintains a clean, safe and orderly work area.
  5. When Staffing needs dictate, may be scheduled to work an alternate shift.
  6. Completes security rounds on the third shift as directed by the pre-determined times.
  7. Assists facilities services department with snow removal on the third shift during winter months around the entry ways of the main building including Dr. Entrance, Main Entrance, Rehab Entrance and ER Entrance ways.

  • Arrives for work on time and as scheduled.
  • Is knowledgeable and practices safely using infection control, universal precaution and safety protocols. Uses appropriate universal precautions, infection control practices, along with proper lifting and transfer techniques to promote patient and employee safety.
  • Is knowledgeable and complies with hospital policies and procedures.
  • May assist in the promotion of our institution and profession by participation in hospital promotion and health fair activities.
  • Performs other duties as requested within the scope of applicable licensure, abilities and policies.
  • EDUCATION: High School graduation (or equivalency).

    EXPERIENCE: 6 Months.

    CONTACTS: Regular contact with patients, visitors, and employees of various departments.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Stands, walks and bends most of the day; lifts and carries equipment and supplies of various weights in accordance with OSHA recommendations and restrictions.

    WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually works in well-lighted, well vented, heated areas. Exposed to hazards associated with medical/infectious waste, cleaning chemicals and harsh detergent solutions, dust, dirt, and unpleasant odors. Observes and follows standard precautions for infection/cross infection control as established by the Hospital infection control committee. Must be available to work primarily third shift, occasional weekends and holidays. Must be able to accept infrequent overtime assignments/project cleaning as needed. Must possess a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
