SENIOR PERFORMANCE MEDICAL COORDINATOR
CLASSIFICATION: Year-round; full time
FLSA: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Medical Operations
LOCATION: Center of Excellence – Park City, Utah
TRAVEL: <30 days a year

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
The Senior Performance Medical Coordinator works closely with the Director of Medical Operations as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing medical management and insight into applied high performance services for U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletes.
This role leads the management of all traveling medical staff and management of medical care provision for the traveling team. This includes but is not limited to athlete evaluation and treatment, guidance of medical care plans for named national team athletes, maintaining athlete health records and equipment, the organization of medical coverage (PT/AT and Physicians) for traveling teams, scheduling and execution of annual physicals. Development and execution of medical management processes and systems will be key to the success of this role. Weekend, early morning or evening work will be required to deliver services, especially during the competition season and when traveling with teams.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Athlete Experience
- Management of athlete health and wellness during training and competition periods of named national team athletes.
- Assist in the development and lead implementation of supplemental holistic health and wellness focusing programs on injury prevention and optimization of wellness to compliment performance.
- Ensure that the wellness and medical programs are in alignment with the overall mission of the U.S. Ski & Snowboard High Performance Department to support the whole athlete.
- Provide support to traveling Sports Medicine providers, staff, contractors and volunteers to ensure optimal services and operations are available.
- Support the coordination of sports medicine, high performance, mental health services, and nutrition to ensure a comprehensive approach to athlete health and wellness.
Operational Excellence
- Manage Performance Medical Team including staff recruitment, onboarding, support and development.
- Facilitate communication between traveling teams and Head Team Physicians.
- Manages access to health care records and HIPAA compliant communications in platforms including Smartabase and Tiger Connect.
- Oversee maintenance of health records for named team athletes including conducting regular audits of Performance Medical Provider documentation.
- Coordinate the hand-off of injured athletes into the Clinical Medicine program to complete the Return to Performance process through close collaboration with the Lead Clinical Specialist.
- Facilitation of appropriate medical referrals when needed for further evaluation and management of medical issues related to care of the athlete on the road.
- Manage and Maintain Medical Volunteer Pool including ensuring all volunteer medical providers are current with current U.S. Ski & Snowboard Membership, WADA/USADA education modules, and have complete required education on policy & procedure prior to travel. Also ensures annual evaluations for medical pool are complete, feedback is provided and records are maintained within Smartabase.
- Oversees scheduling of medical coverage for all teams, ensures that there is enough available coverage to support all trips with priority on austere environments.
- Support traveling medical team by working with Team Managers to support logistics processes.
Financial Performance
- Management of the Sports Medicine Supplies budget.
- Lead the hiring, growth and retention of Sports Medicine department staff, involving high performance staff, sport directors, coaches and athletes as needed to ensure exceptional individuals are hired.
- Support VP of High Performance in establishing and managing contractual relationships with relevant companies and vendors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

COMPETENCIES & EXPERIENCE
- Licensure in Physician’s Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, Certified Athletic Trainer, Doctorate of Physical Therapy or similar advanced degree. Required to have a current Utah license or be eligible for such licensure.
- Minimum of three (3) years of post-training clinical experience. A focus in sports medicine, orthopedics, or primary care is preferred but not required.
- Current CPR certification.
- A proven history that demonstrates outstanding communication and people management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work on a multidisciplinary team including but not limited to physicians, support staff, medical staff, coaches, athletes, community partners, and corporate sponsors.
- Strong written and organization skills required.
- Strong competency in computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and Google tools and medical databases/EMRs.
- Some travel required based on budget and prioritized team needs throughout the year with a focus on the winter season.
