Job Description

The role of the Patient Care Assistant (PCA) is to provide continuous observation of patients determined to be at risk for safety. The PCA reports to the nurse and is responsible for supporting a safe patient environment and notifying nursing staff of any unsafe patient behavior. The PCA is furthermore, responsible for assisting with basic patient care such as transfers and activities of daily living and keeping an accurate record of the patient’s behavior while under observation. Other duties may be assigned to support the nursing unit when not actively observing a patient.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Demonstrate initial ongoing competence in performing tasks for care.
  • One year experience in a rehabilitation nursing setting preferred.
  • Capable of safely performing functions indigenous to the position, including routine and extended periods of walking, squatting, stopping, reaching overheard, lifting and transferring of patients using proper body mechanics.
