ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE:
The Pratt Institute School of Architecture (SoA) educates future leaders in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, urban and community planning, construction and facilities management, real estate practice, environmental management, historic preservation, and urban placemaking. We see the design, planning, and management of the built environment as tools for addressing the critical issues of our time—including social justice and the climate crisis. Students at the Pratt SoA build the skills and knowledge needed to respond to these complex and evolving challenges in a uniquely versatile, innovative, and ethical way in an environment of disciplinary, intellectual, and cultural diversity.

The Pratt School of Architecture’s Graduate Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design (GA/LA/UD) department is seeking tech savvy, detail-oriented applicants for the position of Department Coordinator. This position has department-wide duties but will also focus on the needs of the Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) program.

Reporting directly to the Chairperson and working closely with the MLA Academic Director the responsibilities of the Department Coordinator include:

  • Serve as liaison to faculty, internal departments, external organizations, and students, including supporting department faculty and students with administrative tasks within the department and with the institute at large, with a focus on MLA cohorts.
  • Coordination and prioritization of daily department (assist) and program (main focus) activities, including but not limited to generating purchase orders; running enrollment reports and utilizing spreadsheets; processing reimbursements; organizing and maintaining ling systems and preserving the confidentiality of student and faculty files; initiating appropriate forms as directed (including stipends for pedagogical and curricular activities); managing databases and calendars).
  • Hire, assign tasks and supervise work-study students and/or graduate assistants.
  • Monitor financial activities for the MLA program and coordinate with the department (i.e, generate purchase orders, set up spreadsheets, initiate appropriate payroll/payment actions for work study, oversee expenditures, work with campus budget office to ensure appropriate documentation and accountability, etc.);
  • Assist the department and MLA program in course scheduling, academic calendar, and facilities
  • Support departmental/MLAprogram events from event coordination to promotion and marketing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education: Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s preferred.

Experience: 2-3 years administrative experience, preferably in a higher education environment.

Knowledge and Skills: Excellent computer skills (i.e., handling data in spreadsheets, word processing, Google Suite, Adobe Suite, and database applications required), superior interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Must have the ability to work well with diverse populations and demonstrated level of cultural competence.
