About This Position
The Friends Committee on National Legislation seeks an Advocacy Team Trainer and Policy Consultant to train and coach our expanding network of 1,500 people in 135 Advocacy Teams around the country who are building deep relationships with their members of Congress. We need a well-organized, articulate, goal-oriented contractor who thrives on motivating people through video meetings and on the phone to learn how they can build relationships with members of Congress to advance peace and justice legislative priorities.
A successful candidate for this position will be an inspiring self-starter who can work with people from many different backgrounds to help them become successful advocates. The trainer and policy contractor can work from anywhere in the U.S. We expect the work to take about 12 hours per week.

The Program
FCNL’s Advocacy Teams are building relationships with members of Congress and the media to win campaigns for peace and justice in Congress. The teams organize in their local communities and connect through a national network of advocates. As of August 2025, 135 Advocacy Teams span all 50 states plus Washington D.C. and include more than 1500 participants. Advocacy Team members include Quakers and friends who volunteer their time to lobby Congress on peace and justice legislation.
This FCNL initiative, inspired by a relational advocacy model developed by RESULTS founder Sam Daley Harris, is engaging citizen advocates around the country to make change in federal policy.
Scope and Timeline of Specific Requirements:
Lead Team Health Outreach
- Support the growth and sustainability of Advocacy Teams by building strong, trusting relationships.
- Provide strategic coaching and encouragement to help teams address challenges and increase their advocacy effectiveness.
- Identify team needs and, refer complex issues to other staff, contractors, or volunteer leaders for additional support.
- Design and facilitate online trainings that build advocacy skills in line with the needs Advocacy Teams face.
Increase Advocate Engagement
- Develop strategies to encourage teams to take more frequent advocacy actions.
- Provide ongoing support and constructive feedback to help them take action more often and with greater impact.
Manage the Mobilize/Forj community platform
- Provide expert guidance to advocates on how to use the Mobilize/Forj platform to enhance their advocacy.
- Offer training and support to users to help them use the platform successfully.
Provide Policy Support
- Stay up to date on legislative campaigns Advocacy Teams are working on.
- Serve as a resource to teams on policy issues, answering questions and offering strategic advice.
- Share policy updates with the network between program calls.
Reporting
- Meet weekly with the Senior Advocacy Teams Manager. Share major policy or advocacy wins as well as a summary of team health conversations.
- Meet with Advocacy Teams staff and contractor as needed.
- Strong verbal communication and facilitation skills, with an engaging and inspiring presence on virtual calls.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and a self-starter who can work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Experience in training, coaching, or motivating volunteers, ideally in advocacy, lobbying, or grassroots organizing.
- Ability to build relationships and work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds while fostering inclusion.
- Comfortable leading evening or weekend virtual trainings and providing ongoing phone and video support.
- Tech-savvy and able to use online platforms such as Zoom and community engagement tools like Mobilize/Forj (or willing to learn quickly).
- Commitment to FCNL’s mission and values, including non-partisan, relational advocacy and openness to a Quaker, faith-based approach.
Compensation & Work Expectations
Compensation is $25 per hour for 12 hours per week.
