JOB SUMMARY
Plant Operations-HVAC Mechanic II
JOB SUMMARY
BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of heating, ventilation, and
cooling equipment.
This position requires a higher level of technical competence and a greater ability to solve
problems than the HVAC Mechanic I position and is reserved for employees who have
clearly demonstrated solid performance utilizing such skills.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Reads blueprints, plans, and documents to determine the requirements for
equipment installation and repair
2. Installs new equipment such as air handling units, fan coil units, direct-expansion
cooling units, exhaust fans, refrigerators, ice machines, etc.
3. Installs and repairs controls for HVAC equipment such as thermostats, water
modulating valves, isolation valves, etc.
4. Repairs existing equipment
5. Performs preventive maintenance tasks on equipment
6. Maintains a current air filter schedule for applicable equipment and changes filters
7. Monitors and records ventilation performance in respiratory isolation rooms and takes
appropriate corrective action to restore proper performance
8. Installs and repairs pipe insulation 9.Submits requests for maintaining a sufficient
level of basic heating, cooling, and refrigeration supplies for the timely completion of
routine tasks and special projects
10. Maintains equipment in good work ordering
11. Keeps work areas clean, orderly, and safe
12. Maintains established department policies, procedures, and quality standards
13. Appropriately informs departmental management of any problems relating to HVAC
systems or with any other areas
14. Performs other duties as required or assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Diploma or its equivalent preferred.
Two-year degree from an accredited college or equivalent institution in refrigeration technology OR EXPERIENCE.
United States EPA Universal Technician Certification preferred.
Experience: Five (5) years of proven relevant refrigeration experience
preferably in the healthcare or related industry or HVAC Certification.
Physical Demands: Heavy physical effort (lift and carry up to 50 pounds)
Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing and walking
Pushes and pulls and/or moves and lifts heavy equipment and
supplies
Manual dexterity and mobility
Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching
