Job Description
Responsibilities of the position include managing the day-to-day operations of youth action; interfacing with youth, community members, organizations and decision-makers at every level; and motivating and leading youth in tobacco control interventions. The Reality Check Lead Coordinator will develop and maintain a core group of youth to carry out activities associated with the Reality Check initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Co-Coordinate project to educate about “Point-of-Sale Tobacco Marketing”
- Implement education campaign on the effects of point-of-sale marketing; to include community events, youth based organizations, influential community groups, etc.
- Develop and engage allies to educate and advance the efforts of the point-of-sale initiative.
- Collaborate with youth and organizations representing groups that are disproportionately affected by retail tobacco marketing to assist with the point-of-sale initiative.
- Communicate with community members and government decision makers about the importance of reducing and/or removing tobacco marketing from non-adult only retail outlets; communication to include mailings, petitions/postcards of support, in-person meetings.
- Communicate with news outlets regarding prevalence of retail tobacco marketing and its impact on youth and the local community and activate partners to garner earned media.
- Coordinate “Tobacco-Free Outdoors Initiative” for municipalities and major employers
- Work with municipalities and business leaders to develop tobacco-free policies.
- Engage allies to educate and advance the efforts of the tobacco-free outdoor initiative.
- Collaborate with youth-focused organizations, environmental organizations, and health advocacy groups to assist with the tobacco-free outdoors initiative.
- Provide technical assistance to municipalities and businesses throughout the entire process of transitioning to a tobacco-free outdoor environment.
- Communicate with news outlets regarding tobacco-free outdoor areas and its impact on the local community and activate partners to garner earned media.
- Coordinate “Smoke-Free Multi-Unit Housing Initiative”
- Implement educational campaign on the benefits of smoke-free housing; to include tenants, organizational policy-makers, elected officials, etc.
- Develop and engage allies to publicly support smoke-free policies for multi-unit housing.
- Provide technical assistance to landlords and property management companies throughout the entire process of transitioning to smoke-free multi-unit housing.
- Administrative Responsibilities
- Submit monthly reports for the CAT System.
- Communicate with community supporters monthly via email with requests for support; ie. LTEs, community event participation, etc.
- Attend NYS DOH BTC meetings and trainings as required.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of four years work experience in advocacy or education or tobacco control or similar human services position preferred.
EDUCATION
- Minimum of an Associates Degree in human services or similar field.

- Self-motivated. Ability to speak effectively in public. Strong interpersonal relations skills.
