JOB SUMMARY

The Patient Accounts Counselor–Collections manages the department's insurance authorizations, scheduling, and payment collections. This position is cross-trained as a Department Secretary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Ensures superior ongoing patient satisfaction and customer service.
  • Is proficient in Meditech registration MOSAIQ scheduling.
  • Completes all chemotherapy (IV and oral) and immunotherapy insurance preauthorization.
  • Financial clearance in coordination with PFS including financial counseling. Helps self-pay patients find payer sources etc.)
  • Lead coordinator for all chemotherapy/immunotherapy treatments, scheduling, and coordination.
  • Assist providers in letters for disability, jury duty etc. for patients as needed.
  • Coordinates all VA insurance authorization for Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology.
  • Assists patients in providing information necessary for hospital assistance applications, Med Data information, etc.
  • Gather all medical records for new patient consults and puts chart together.
  • Maintains complete and accurate documentation in Meditech regarding financial status updates.
  • Cross-trained as Department Secretary at front desk to assist with patient check in and registration.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all personnel and patient care and relations information.
  • Actively participates in Strategic Quality Management for the department and organization. Actively participates in Customer/Guest Relations and Mandatory Education programs.
  • Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices.
  • Complies with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned. This list is non-exhaustive.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education
    • High school graduate or GED
  • Licensure
    • None
  • Experience
    • Previous clerical or unit secretary experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • The ability to maintain continuing education requirements and all certifications and licenses as required
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Positive communication skills with accuracy and compassion that is effective with individuals who have varying levels of comprehension.
  • Math aptitude including ability to calculate.
  • Ability to handle various projects simultaneously and efficiently with attention to accuracy, prioritization, and patient request in an environment with distractions and frequent interruptions.
  • Analytical, reasoning, and interpretive skills with a high level of mental concentration and memory.
  • Computer Knowledge including the ability to enter material into electronic record. Ability to operate fax, computer, and copy machine to perform the duties of the position.
  • Legible handwriting.
  • Able to comprehend medical terminology.
