Position Summary
The Medical Assistant Scribe performs all clinical and office duties of a Medical Assistant as well as performs clerical and information technology functions for a physician in a clinic setting when acting in the capacity of a Medical Scribe.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Include the Following:
- Patient medical history and physical exam,
- Procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants.
- Patient education and explanations of risks and benefits.
- Physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-up
- Prepare referral letters as directed by the physician
huddles and regular scheduled practice team meetings
13. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) required.
- Successful completion of a six-month (6) to one (1) year course in Medical Assisting at an accredited school, required.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), preferred.
- As of July 15th, 2018 BLS certification (through American Heart Association) is required for all Medical Assistant
- Medical Assistants must have their BLS upon hire or obtain within 3 months of hire.
- Basic medical terminology, Electronic Scheduling and Electronic Medical Record experience preferred.
- Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant (preferred).

- Must retain composure under stress
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment
- May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc and in the Physician Practice.
