Applications are now being accepted for the position of Police Officer in the Town of Vienna Police Department from applicants who are currently Virginia Certified Police Officers with 2 or more years of law enforcement experience to include patrol experience. Highly Qualified candidate(s)may be given an oral interview, a conditional job offer, a background investigation, a polygraph examination, a physical examination, and a psychological examination. A waiver of these steps will be considered through background and experience. After successful completion of the process, a final interview with the Chief of Police will be scheduled.

Work Hours:
Permanent 12 hours shifts. 7A-7P or 7P-7A. 14 shifts a month
to include nights, weekends and holidays.
*Officers Assigned to permanent midnight shift will receive a shift differentialThis is a Non-Exempt Position.
Responds to calls involving criminal violations; secure scene to restore peace and protect evidence; call for additional assistance as needed; interview complainants and witnesses; collect evidence; apprehend and process suspects; complete criminal offense reports; make court appearances as necessary.
Respond to calls involving traffic accidents; secure scene to protect victims and property; give first aid and call for medical assistance; interview participants and witnesses, collect other related information and complete reports.
Enforcement of all traffic regulations; control and redirect traffic by setting up roadblocks and diversion devices and using hand signals or lights in congested areas and scenes of emergency or danger; promote traffic safety; assist stranded motorists; enforce parking restrictions; and prevent or eliminate blockage of sidewalks, streets, and other public accesses.
Use speed measuring devices, monitor speed of traffic, or conduct selective enforcement measures in accordance with established goals and objectives; stop violators and issue warning or summons; conduct tests for the determination of intoxication where appropriate.
Perform police duties at parades, processions, and other police events in assigned areas; check and report on deficient streetlights, signs, road surface or other facilities which serve the public.
Conduct follow-up investigations: interview witnesses, victims, and others and take statements; Interrogate suspect; examine records and collect evidence to be used for criminal prosecution; testify in court; prepare detailed investigative reports; serve warrants, obtain subpoenas, and make arrests; conduct surveillance; work undercover as assigned.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
