STEMPACT Summer Camp Monitor/Helper – Temporary, Full-Time

Aid the camp instructors for Continuing & Professional Development (CPD) classes offered through San Jacinto College including the Central, North, and/or South campuses as well as other off-site locations if necessary. Assist the camp instructor in meeting all course training objectives. Complete all required San Jacinto College training and course completion paperwork in a timely fashion. Part-time summer camp staff are hired on an "as needed" basis and will work for the duration of time specified by the respective course.

Chief responsibilities:

• Provide general assistance to the Camp Director and Instructors

• Set up supplies for all classroom activities and help to explain and answer student’s questions

• Set up and run all ice breaking activities daily

• Provide and gather pre-post, personality, and final evaluation assessments

• Provide support instruction as needed in collaboration with instructor

• Assist in maintaining management of student behavior in class

• Follow the course schedule and find ways to assist students in learning the curriculum

• Insure safety of all students and staff

• Fill out all required San Jac documentation (timesheet, class rolls, etc.)

• Participate in extracurricular activities such as the college tour

• Distribute materials for activities

• Communicate with SJCD staff as to the supplies and needs for the class. Provide feedback to SJ on what works and what doesn’t.

• Monitor and organize all supplies-assist in cleaning classroom daily

• Help with distributing lunch, snack and drinks daily

• Insure that students exit the class and go home with correct family pickup

• Be willing to take lead if instructor is out or a substitute comes in

• Take part in course trainings and weekly staff meetings, to occur before and/or after camp on a designated day each week

• Fill out roster of daily attendance

• Analyze data

• Assist with outdoor and computer labs

• Other duties as required


Required Qualifications:

• High School degree

• 1-year or more of experience in teaching youth on STEM topics with effective classroom management skills (volunteer experience considered)

• Excellent technology skills

• Effective oral and written communication skills

• Must be responsible, punctual, friendly, and enthusiastic

• Be able to commit to teaching for one to three weeks in July 2026

• Clean Driving Record and must have own form of reliable transportation

• Willing to undergo background check

Preferred qualifications:

• San Jacinto College student in good standing preferred

• Two or more years of teaching summer camps for middle and high school students is preferred

• Experience working in a STEM field

• First Aid / CPR certification preferred

Working information:

Position pays $13.50 per hour. Classes will take place from July 13, 2026, through July 31, 2026 from 8:00 am -5:00 pm Monday-Thursday and 8:00 am-12:00 pm on Fridays.

Teaching site locations are San Jacinto College’s North, Central and South campuses.
