S&S Transport is looking for a Heavy Duty Diesel Technician to join our team!
We are looking for someone who enjoys working with their hands, takes pride in quality work, and wants to be part of a team. Our technicians primarily work on semi trucks and trailers, performing everything from routine maintenance to diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues.
All skill levels are encouraged to apply! We are willing to train the right mechanically inclined individual. Fleet maintenance experience is a major plus.
Pay is based on experience.
Job SummaryAs a Heavy Duty Diesel Technician, you will work closely with our Shop Foreman, Service Writers, Parts Manager, and Fleet Maintenance Manager to keep our equipment safe, reliable, and on the road.
You’ll interact with drivers to understand maintenance concerns, diagnose problems, and complete repairs on semi trucks and various types of trailers. This is a great opportunity for someone with a positive attitude, strong mechanical ability, and a willingness to learn.
Diesel Mechanic Job Responsibilities- Perform routine maintenance on semi trucks and trailers, including oil changes, battery checks, and preventative maintenance
- Inspect and repair brake systems, wheel bearings, steering components, suspension, and other truck and trailer systems
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems using diagnostic equipment and computerized systems
- Repair and replace parts, bearings, gears, and other components as needed
- Repair vehicle heating and cooling systems
- Perform inspections and ensure repairs meet manufacturer and safety specifications
- Test drive vehicles to verify repairs and identify additional issues
- Use a variety of shop tools and equipment, including pneumatic tools, diagnostic equipment, hoists, jacks, and welding equipment
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and follow all applicable safety procedures
- Communicate professionally with drivers, coworkers, and management
- Own and maintain your own basic hand tools
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to use common hand tools
- Mechanically inclined and willing to learn
- Ability to lift and handle heavy equipment and parts regularly
- Ability to work in awkward positions and confined spaces
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Professional attitude and commitment to quality workmanship
- Must have your own basic mechanic hand tools
- 2+ years of diesel mechanic experience
- Technical certification or degree
- Previous fleet maintenance experience
- Welding or fabrication experience
- Automotive or shop experience
- CDL or truck driving experience
- Truck tire or alignment experience
- Previous experience as a heavy duty mechanic
- Basic Microsoft Office knowledge
