Abatement Manager

Department: Operations
 Reports To: General Manager 
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

The Abatement Manager is responsible for overseeing all asbestos, lead, mold, and other environmental abatement projects from initial assignment through final completion. This position provides leadership to field personnel, ensures regulatory compliance, manages project profitability, maintains exceptional customer service, and develops the abatement division for long-term growth.

The ideal candidate is an experienced leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, understands environmental regulations, and possesses strong operational, estimating, and project management skills.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Management

Manage all daily operations of the Abatement Division.

Schedule crews, equipment, and subcontractors to maximize efficiency.

Ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to company quality standards.

Conduct regular job site inspections and quality control reviews.

Manage project schedules while minimizing downtime between projects.

Coordinate with Mitigation, Reconstruction, Contents, and Estimating departments.

Respond to emergency losses as required.

Project Management

Review scopes of work prior to project startup.

Develop work plans and sequencing for each project.

Monitor project budgets, labor costs, and material usage.

Identify project risks and implement solutions proactively.

Communicate project status with customers, adjusters, consultants, and management.

Ensure all required permits, notifications, and documentation are completed.

Regulatory Compliance

Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations.

Maintain OSHA, EPA, AHERA, and state licensing requirements.

Ensure proper containment, engineering controls, and air monitoring procedures.

Verify proper transportation and disposal of hazardous materials.

Conduct safety audits and maintain a strong safety culture.

Lead incident investigations and corrective action plans when necessary.

Team Leadership

Recruit, hire, train, mentor, and develop abatement technicians.

Conduct regular performance evaluations.

Coach employees on safety, productivity, and customer service.

Lead daily production meetings.

Maintain accountability for attendance, performance, and company standards.

Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment.

Customer Service

Build strong relationships with customers, consultants, adjusters, property managers, and contractors.

Maintain frequent communication throughout every project.

Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.

Ensure customer satisfaction from project start through completion.

Financial Management

Review project profitability and job costing.

Manage labor budgets and material usage.

Review estimates for accuracy and completeness.

Assist with change orders and supplemental billing.

Monitor equipment utilization and operating costs.

Participate in budgeting and forecasting for the division.

Estimating & Business Development Support

Assist with site inspections and project scoping.

Support estimating staff with technical expertise.

Identify opportunities for additional services.

Develop relationships with industrial hygienists, environmental consultants, municipalities, property managers, insurance professionals, and commercial clients.

Participate in networking and marketing events to grow the abatement division.

Documentation

Maintain accurate job files.

Ensure photographs, moisture readings, air monitoring reports, manifests, and project documentation are complete.

Verify compliance documentation is maintained according to regulatory requirements.

Review daily production reports.

Equipment & Fleet

Ensure all abatement equipment is maintained and calibrated.

Oversee vehicle maintenance.

Maintain inventory of PPE, consumables, and specialty equipment.

Ensure proper storage and cleanliness of company assets.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of asbestos, lead, mold, or environmental remediation experience.

Minimum 3 years of management or supervisory experience.

Strong understanding of OSHA, EPA, and state environmental regulations.

Experience managing multiple crews simultaneously.

Strong organizational and leadership skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication.

Strong customer service skills.

Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Ability to pass background screening and drug testing.

Preferred Certifications

Asbestos Supervisor License

Lead Supervisor License

EPA Renovation, Repair & Painting (RRP) Certification

OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification

IICRC Applied Microbial Remediation Technician (AMRT)

IICRC Water Damage Restoration Technician (WRT)

Mold Supervisor License (where applicable)

First Aid / CPR Certification

Confined Space Training (preferred)

Microsoft Office Suite

DASH or similar restoration software (preferred)

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.

Ability to wear respirators and full PPE.

Ability to work in confined spaces, crawl spaces, and elevated locations.

Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.

Ability to work in varying weather conditions.

Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, and bend for extended periods.

Salary Range: $100,000 to $110,000
