The building includes three commercial kitchens, a full-service restaurant, rooftop amenity spaces, and the full complement of back-of-house mechanical systems expected of a historic urban property.
POSITION SUMMARY
Fairlane Hotel is seeking an Engineer to perform the hands-on maintenance and repair work that keeps the property running. This is an active, in-the-field trade role.
The Engineer completes guest and staff work orders, carries out preventive maintenance, and responds to mechanical issues across guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Hands-On Maintenance & Repairs:

- Respond to guest and staff work orders promptly and with minimal disruption to the guest experience
- Maintain guest rooms, public areas, F&B outlets and three commercial kitchens, the rooftop, and back-of-house spaces to Fairlane's standards
Work Order Execution:
- Complete assigned work orders in the Optii platform, logging status and closing out each request with a clear record
- Prioritize urgent guest-impacting issues and communicate delays to the Engineering Supervisor or Chief Engineer
- Follow up to confirm repairs and resolve the original issue before closing a request
Preventive Maintenance & Asset Care:
- Carry out assigned preventive maintenance on schedule and fully documented
- Support the upkeep of mechanical, HVAC, refrigeration, water-supply, electrical, and elevator systems
- Report developing issues or unusual wear promptly, particularly on the building's original 1970s systems
Emergency Response & Life Safety:
- Respond to engineering-related emergencies as directed, including fire alarm activations, flooding, power outages, and equipment failures
- Maintain working familiarity with building emergency systems, shut-offs, and evacuation routes
- Follow all safety protocols and immediately flag any life-safety concern to a supervisor
Teamwork & Professionalism:
- Support Front Office, Housekeeping, and F&B with prompt, courteous service on shared spaces and equipment
- Keep work areas, tools, and shared equipment clean, organized, and ready for the next shift
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- 1+ years of hands-on maintenance experience in a hotel, commercial building, or related trade setting
- Working knowledge of at least one core trade area (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or carpentry), with willingness to cross-train
- Ability to follow instructions, complete assigned work independently, and communicate status clearly
- Comfort with basic work-order software (Optii a plus)
- A reliable, safety-conscious, team-oriented approach
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted, climb ladders, work at heights, and maneuver in tight spaces
Preferred:
- Experience in a boutique or independent hotel setting
- Trade school training or relevant certifications in a mechanical discipline
- Experience working in an older building with legacy mechanical systems
