Job Description

Speech Pathologist

  • GENERAL SUMMARY
    • The Speech Pathologist is responsible for accurately evaluating, diagnosing, preparing, implementing, monitoring and supervising an individually tailored therapy program to maximize performance and obtain treatment goals. Reports to department leadership.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Tests, evaluates, treats, diagnoses and prescribes treatment for patients experiencing speech, language, cognition, swallowing and/or communication disorders.
    • Provides a full range of diagnostic, counseling and rehabilitative services.
    • Assists in the development and maintenance of policies, procedures, protocols to enhance patient outcomes.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • Current state licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
    • Provisional license acceptable during Clinical Fellowship; must obtain Virginia license upon completion.
    • Current Certification of Clinical Competence through the American Speech-Language, Hearing Associations (ASHA); or if in Clinical Fellowship, must obtain upon completion.
  • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • Master’s degree in speech-pathology/communication disorders.
    • Knowledge of speech-language pathology principles and theories.
    • Knowledge and experience in the administration of a variety of assessment tools, treatment plans and equipment associated with communication, language and oral-motor disorder.
    • Ability to meet on call requirements of department.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
