This role sits at the center of SBA lending portfolio performance, combining credit analysis, underwriting expertise, and proactive portfolio management. You will be responsible for ensuring portfolio soundness while supporting growth and profitability objectives across SBA lending activities. The position requires close collaboration with bankers, credit teams, and servicing specialists to evaluate risk and support informed lending decisions. You will analyze complex financial statements, structure credit solutions, and prepare detailed underwriting recommendations. A strong focus is placed on identifying early warning signals, managing distressed credits, and ensuring regulatory compliance. This is a highly analytical and relationship-driven role in a fast-paced banking environment where sound judgment and precision directly impact portfolio quality and client success.
- Oversee SBA loan portfolio performance, ensuring soundness, profitability, and compliance with credit standards and lending policies.
- Conduct in-depth financial analysis, including spreading and interpreting business and personal financial statements to assess creditworthiness.
- Prepare, review, and present credit approval packages with clear risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
- Manage portfolio monitoring activities, including identifying early warning signs, delinquency management, and renewal evaluations.
- Collaborate with bankers, credit officers, and special assets teams to develop action plans for downgraded or at-risk loans.
- Support SBA Express Line of Credit renewals and perform annual reviews of borrower relationships.
- Mentor junior portfolio and servicing team members while contributing to special projects and portfolio improvements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, or related field with 7–10 years of financial analysis, underwriting, or portfolio management experience.
- 3–5 years of SBA lending experience with strong knowledge of SBA programs, SOPs, and credit regulations.
- Expertise in analyzing financial statements, cash flow, credit structures, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Strong decision-making skills with the ability to independently evaluate and approve lending recommendations.
- Proficiency in SBA lending and credit systems such as Moody’s, Baker Hill, 360 View, nCino, Navigator, or similar tools.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings, weekends, and up to 10% travel as required.
