Position Overview
The Shocker Store is seeking a highly organized and customer-focused Course Materials Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our textbook and educational supplies division. This role is responsible for ensuring course materials, school supplies, and graduation regalia are available, accessible, and well-managed to support student success.This position plays a key role in driving operational efficiency, managing vendor relationships, and collaborating with faculty to deliver both traditional and digital course materials.
What You’ll Do
Operations & Inventory ManagementOversee all aspects of textbook department operations, including purchasing, inventory control, merchandising, sales, and returnsManage course material adoptions and work closely with faculty to ensure timely access to required materials (print and digital)Procure and maintain inventory for school supplies, residence hall essentials, and graduation regaliaLeadership & Staff DevelopmentTrain, supervise, and support team members in customer service and operational proceduresFoster a positive, fast-paced retail environment focused on service excellenceFinancial OversightMonitor departmental spending and review monthly financial reportsSupport annual budget planning and ensure sound fiscal managementAnalyze performance to identify cost savings and revenue opportunitiesCustomer & Campus CollaborationBuild strong relationships with faculty, students, and vendorsCommunicate effectively to support course material accessibility and customer satisfaction
What You Bring
Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience)Minimum of 3 years of retail management and supervisory experienceSkills & AbilitiesStrong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environmentSolid understanding of retail operations, inventory management, and merchandisingBasic knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and fiscal managementExcellent communication skills (written and verbal)Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detailAbility to work independently and meet deadlines
Work Environment & Physical RequirementsRetail office environment with moderate noiseFrequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs; pushing/pulling up to 200 lbs)Extended hours during peak periods (e.g., start of semesters) may be requiredRegular use of computers and office systems
