Program Overview – Homeward Bound
The Homeward Bound program serves women and female-led families navigating housing instability, trauma, and barriers to employment. As such, this role demands a patient, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed approach. The instructor must balance academic rigour with sensitivity to participants' lived experiences, varying skill levels, and competing personal demands.

The ICDL Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality, trauma-informed digital literacy instruction to Phase I participants of WoodGreen's Homeward Bound Program. This role exists to equip female-led families-many of whom face systemic barriers to education and employment-with the computer skills and ICDL certifications required to advance to college-level study and sustainable employment. By supporting participants in achieving program milestones, the ICDL Instructor plays a critical role in WoodGreen's broader mission to foster social inclusion and long-term independence for marginalized families.

What You Will Do
Instruction and Program Delivery
  • Deliver in-person or online ICDL instruction to Phase I Homeward Bound cohorts, covering the following modules:
  • Documents (Microsoft Word) – document creation, formatting, editing, and professional correspondence
  • Spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel) – data entry, formulas, charts, and data management
  • Presentation (Microsoft PowerPoint) – designing and delivering effective presentations
  • Using Databases (Microsoft Access) – creating and managing databases, queries, and reports
  • Prepare and adapt lesson plans and learning materials to meet the diverse needs and skill levels of participants, including those returning to education after a significant period away.
  • Develop and maintain lesson templates, worksheets, and PowerPoint slide decks to support effective instruction.
  • Foster an inclusive, trauma-informed, and encouraging learning environment consistent with Homeward Bound's values and program expectations.

Assessment and Certification
  • Administer ICDL diagnostic practice tests and prepare participants for official ICDL certification exams (minimum passing score of 75% required per module).
  • Review and mark participant assignments in a timely and constructive manner.
  • Provide one-on-one or small-group remedial support to participants who require additional assistance to meet certification benchmarks.

Participant Progress and Record-Keeping
  • Track and monitor individual participant progress across all modules, identifying challenges early and flagging concerns to the Homeward Bound case management team as needed.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, and progress records in accordance with program requirements and WoodGreen's documentation standards.

Team Collaboration
  • Collaborate with the HB team at case conferences and milestone review meetings as required.
  • Communicate proactively with the Program Manager regarding participant milestones, instructional challenges, or adjustments to curriculum delivery.
