Job Description
RIG FLOOR TECHNICIAN
Job Summary:
The Rig Floor Technician is responsible for supporting safe and efficient well service and workover operations by assisting with rig floor activities, equipment handling, and general rig support tasks. This position works as part of the rig crew to help ensure well servicing operations are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements. The Rig Floor Technician assists with pipe handling, equipment setup, rig maintenance, and operational support while maintaining a strong focus on safety and teamwork.
Essential Duties:
- Assist with rig up and rig down operations to ensure rig equipment, pumps, and derrick components are properly installed and secured for safe operation.
- Support pipe handling operations by assisting with tubing, rods, and other equipment being moved into and out of the wellbore.
- Operate and assist with rig floor equipment including tongs, elevators, slips, and other handling tools used during well servicing operations.
- Assist the Rig Operator and Derrick Operator with daily rig operations to maintain efficient and continuous work activities.
- Help stage, transport, and organize tools, equipment, and materials required for well servicing operations.
- Assist with maintaining well control equipment and ensure proper procedures are followed during servicing activities.
- Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and basic maintenance of rig equipment and work areas.
- Inspect tools, hoses, and mechanical components to ensure safe working conditions and report any issues to the Rig Operator.
- Promote and follow company safety policies, environmental standards, and operational procedures at all times.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free rig floor and work environment.
- Support crew members with lifting, positioning, and securing equipment during rig operations.
- Communicate operational concerns, safety hazards, or equipment issues to the Rig Operator or Rig Supervisor.
- This position is expected to maintain strict confidentiality of company information, employee records, and any sensitive data encountered in the course of work.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Basic understanding of oilfield operations and well service rig activities.
- Ability to safely handle rig tools, pipe, and equipment used in well servicing operations.
- Understanding of basic safety procedures, hazard awareness, and safe lifting practices.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced field environment.
- Strong situational awareness and ability to recognize potential safety hazards.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in outdoor environments.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior oil and gas field experience preferred.
- Experience working around well service or workover rigs preferred.
- Must meet Driver Acceptability Profile requirements (driving position).
- An equivalent combination of education and experience is also acceptable.
Working Conditions:
- Work will be primarily in the field environment.
- Exposure to varying outdoor conditions including heat, cold, dust, and noise.
- PPE required in field settings.
- Occasional extended hours may be required based on operational needs.
- Physical activity including standing, squatting/kneeling, walking, bending, climbing, and lifting (constant up to 30 pounds, occasional of 31–100 pounds) may be required.
