Job Description

Position Description:
The Adult Education Instructor (Part-Time) provides high-quality instruction to adult learners enrolled in Restore Education programs, helping students build the academic knowledge, workforce readiness skills, and confidence needed to achieve their educational and career goals. The instructor creates an engaging and supportive learning environment, monitors student progress, maintains accurate program documentation, and collaborates with staff to promote student success and successful transition to post-secondary education, training, and employment.

Supervisor: Instruction Manager
Status: Non-exempt
Schedule: Part-time, up to 30 hours per week. Hours may vary based on class schedules and organizational needs.
Locations: Restore Education locations and various partner sites, as assigned.
Hourly Rate: $20.00 to $24.00 per hour

General Instructor Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, student-centered instruction that meets the educational needs, interests, and goals of adult learners.
  • Develop lesson plans aligned with curriculum, content standards, and program requirements.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technology, and learning resources to support student success and active engagement in virtual, in person, or hybrid learning environments.
  • Build positive relationships with students through instruction, coaching, tutoring, goal setting, and regular communication.
  • Assess student knowledge and skill levels and use results to inform instruction.
  • Monitor student attendance, academic progress, persistence, and achievement, implementing retention strategies as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and timely student records, including attendance, assessments, instructional plans, ITEC plans, progress notes, and other required documentation.
  • Assist with student recruitment, registration, orientation, assessment administration, and follow up activities, as assigned.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff and other departments to identify barriers to student success and coordinate appropriate support services.
  • Maintain an organized, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that promotes learning and student engagement.
  • Utilize instructional technology and learning management systems to enhance instruction and support student success.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, required training, and professional development activities, including completion of required annual professional development hours.
  • Maintain compliance with Restore Education policies and procedures and all applicable federal, state, and grant requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Instructional Assignments
Adult Education Instructors may be assigned to one or more instructional areas based on organizational needs, qualifications, experience, and student enrollment. Instructional assignments may include one or more of the following:
  • Adult Basic Education (ABE)
  • High School Equivalency (HSE/GED)
  • English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • Career Readiness
  • College Readiness
  • Digital Literacy
For each assigned instructional area, instructors are expected to:
  • Deliver instruction using approved curriculum, instructional materials, and assessment tools.
  • Align instruction with applicable state, federal, grant, and program standards.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Incorporate technology and digital learning tools as appropriate.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies to improve student outcomes.
  • Prepare students for educational, workforce, industry certification, or postsecondary success, as applicable to the assigned program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Required
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three years of classroom, instructional, tutoring, or related teaching experience.
  • Strong instructional, communication, and classroom management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and online instructional technology.
Preferred
  • Experience working with adult learners.
  • Experience teaching in Adult Basic Education, HSE/GED, ESL, Career Readiness, College Readiness, or Digital Literacy.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Demonstrates professionalism in appearance, communication, and conduct.
  • Ability to motivate adult learners and foster confidence, persistence, and self-efficacy.
  • Knowledge of advising/counseling techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of student information.
  • Ability to deal with diverse situations and people.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff and those contacted in the course of work.
  • Willingness to develop instructional materials and support new program initiatives.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
Must possess a valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License or obtain one within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Work requires visual acuity, speech, hearing, and manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment. Duties include sitting, standing, walking, bending and twisting as needed to perform essential functions.
