Job Title: Custodian / Laborer
Division: Facilities, Fleet, and Transit Stop
Department: Operations
Reports To: Cleaning Supervisor
Purpose
The Custodian / Laborer is responsible for performing all aspects of facility, fleet, and grounds janitorial work, including cleaning, disinfecting, and restoring workspace equipment and products. This role supports all WeGo departments and ensures a clean, safe, and organized environment for employees, customers, and visitors.
Competencies
• Knowledge of cleaning materials, chemicals, and supplies, including proper handling and safety protocols.
• Ability to follow both simple and written directions.
• Ability to identify surfaces to be cleaned and use appropriate cleaning methods.
• Awareness of hazards associated with cleaning chemicals and proper use of PPE.
• Skill in operating cleaning tools and equipment such as vacuums, pressure washers, steam cleaners, scrubbers, and buffers.
• Effective time management; ability to plan and execute routine cleaning tasks and respond to unexpected issues.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and tools; order supplies in a timely manner through supervision.
• Use of tablets or smart devices for work assignments.
• Proactive in performing routine inspections, taking corrective measures, and anticipating ongoing cleaning needs.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding status of assignments, emergencies, and safety concerns.
Essential Functions
• Maintain building, fleet, and grounds cleaning standards.
• Perform heavy cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, vacuuming, stripping, waxing, and buffing floors.
• Gather and empty trash; scrub, sanitize, and supply restroom facilities.
• Dust and clean furniture, walls, equipment, fixtures, gym equipment, windows, walls, and partitions.
• Clean showers, locker rooms, and employee spaces.
• Apply weather-related treatments to walkways.
• Operate cleaning equipment including pressure washers, electrostatic sprayers, riding sweepers, walk-behind scrubbers, shop vacs, high-pressure steamers, blowers, and broadcast sprayers.
• Perform bus wipe-downs and disinfect vehicles as needed.
• Follow proper labeling, dilution, and use of chemicals per SDS requirements.
• Maintain work area cleanliness and organization.
Areas to be cleaned and disinfected:
• Restrooms
• Office spaces and staff work areas (breakrooms, quiet rooms, locker rooms)
• Grounds and lobby/waiting areas
• Stairways, corridors, elevators, foyers
• Gym and showers
• Meeting rooms and bay areas
• Equipment and vehicles
Other Job Duties:
• Move furniture as needed to perform cleaning tasks.
• Work assigned schedule and complete tasks on time.
• Communicate effectively with team members and customers.
• Report suspicious activity, damages, or issues with facilities, equipment, fleet, or transit stops.
• Submit daily task reports (digitally and in writing).
• Complete training to become CleanCheck Cleaning Certified (training provided by the company).
• Perform other job-related duties as required.

Job Qualifications / Requirements:
• Completion of training programs that provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position.
• Successful completion of job-specific training (training provided by the company).
• Good physical condition and stamina.
• Knowledge of and adherence to safety requirements and occupational safety standards.
• Ability to use PPE properly and attend safety meetings.
• Attention to detail and ability to recognize cleaning needs promptly.
• Personal integrity, honesty, and pride in work performance.
Physical Demands:
• Occasionally push or pull up to 65 lbs.
• Standing or walking for up to 90% of the shift.
• Frequent lifting and carrying of hand and power tools or cleaning equipment up to 10 lbs. or more.
• Frequent use of hands for grasping and fine manipulation; occasional exposure to vibration from tools.
• Bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, climbing steps, ladders, or step stools.
• Ability to work in indoor and outdoor temperatures and withstand elements including rain, snow, and wind.
• Work environment includes exposure to dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals.
• Ability to adjust work activities to accommodate any disability-imposed limitations.
