Overview: The Facilities Support Specialist helps maintain a clean, safe, orderly, and professional environment across Athena Manufacturing's buildings and outdoor areas. This hands-on role performs routine janitorial services, waste removal, restroom and breakroom upkeep, lawn and grounds maintenance, and basic facility-support tasks.
The position works independently and with the Facilities/Maintenance team to address daily needs, respond promptly to spills or safety concerns, and help ensure the campus is ready for employees, customers, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities: (include but not limited to): Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, include and are not limited to the following:
Janitorial and Building Care
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, breakrooms, conference rooms, common areas, entrances, and other assigned spaces.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and maintain floors; clean interior glass, doors, fixtures, and other surfaces within assigned areas.
- Empty trash and recycling containers, replace liners, move waste to designated collection areas, and keep disposal areas orderly.
- Restock restroom, breakroom, and janitorial supplies and notify the supervisor when inventory is low.
- Respond promptly to spills, leaks, debris, or other housekeeping needs; place warning signs or barriers when needed and report hazards.
- Use cleaning chemicals, tools, and powered cleaning equipment according to labels, training, safety data sheets, and company procedures.
- Support periodic deep-cleaning projects and prepare shared spaces for meetings, events, customer visits, or other business needs.
Lawn and Grounds Maintenance
- Mow, edge, trim, and maintain lawns and landscaped areas using approved hand tools and powered equipment.
- Remove weeds, leaves, litter, branches, and other debris from lawns, beds, sidewalks, parking areas, entrances, and fence lines.
- Water lawns and landscaped areas as directed and identify visible irrigation, drainage, erosion, or plant-health concerns for follow-up.
- Trim shrubs and low vegetation within the employee's training and approved scope; keep walkways, curbs, signs, and building approaches clear.
- Perform routine seasonal grounds work and assist with outdoor cleanup following storms or facility projects.
- Inspect tools and lawn equipment before use, perform basic operator care, and promptly tag or report damaged or unsafe equipment.
Facility Support and Safety
- Complete assigned work orders and routine cleaning or grounds checklists accurately and on time.
- Identify and report maintenance issues, property damage, pest activity, trip hazards, blocked exits, or other unsafe conditions.
- Assist with moving light furniture, supplies, or materials and with other basic facility-support tasks as assigned.
- Maintain janitorial closets, storage areas, tools, and equipment in a clean, organized, and secure condition.
- Follow all safety, security, environmental, chemical-handling, PPE, and access-control requirements, including rules applicable to manufacturing areas.
- Work respectfully around employees and visitors, protect confidential or sensitive information encountered in work areas, and minimize disruption to operations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned consistent with the position's purpose and the employee's training.

Requirements:Qualifications: Minimum Preferred Qualifications, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, include and are not limited to the following:
- Previous janitorial, custodial, landscaping, groundskeeping, or facilities experience is preferred; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
- Ability to safely use common cleaning tools, lawn equipment, and basic powered equipment after training.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, product labels, safety procedures, schedules, and checklists.
- Dependable attendance, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage routine assignments with limited supervision.
- Ability to communicate hazards, supply needs, equipment problems, and completed work to the appropriate leader.
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required when the candidate demonstrates the ability to perform the work.
Physical Requirements: Essential physical requirements pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, include and are not limited to the following:
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, and use hands for tools and equipment throughout the workday.
- Regularly lift and carry up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds, using assistance or material-handling equipment when appropriate.
- Operate cleaning and lawn-care equipment and work on uneven ground, around curbs, and in active parking or manufacturing areas.
- Perform indoor and outdoor work in heat, cold, humidity, dust, noise, and changing weather conditions while using required PPE.
- Safely climb step stools or approved ladders for routine tasks within training and company policy.
Preferred Tools and Technology:
- Commercial vacuums, floor scrubbers, carpet cleaners, mops, brooms, dusters, and pressure washers
- Lawn mowers, string trimmers, edgers, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, pruning tools, rakes, and shovels
- Hand trucks, carts, ladders, step stools, and basic hand tools
- Cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, spill-response materials, and chemical-dilution systems
- Personal protective equipment, including gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, high-visibility vests, and protective footwear
- Smartphones, tablets, or computers used to receive assignments, complete checklists, submit work orders, and communicate facility needs
- Email, Microsoft Teams, and basic work-order or facilities-management software
Required clothing and PPE: Attire should not interfere with job performance or safety.
