Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Assistant Athletic Director for Campus Recreation and Varsity Administration will serve as the primary liaison and oversee all logistics for club sports and intramurals, including budget management, scheduling, advising the executive boards and game coverage. Serves as a partner for the Student Activities, Involvement & Leadership Office when applicable to advise on pertinent matters for club sports and recreation. The Assistant Athletic Director for Campus Recreation and Varsity Administration will oversee the operation of the Pappas Fitness Center, which serves as the primary fitness facility for the Wheaton College community. The Assistant Athletic Director for Campus Recreation and Varsity Administration will serve as an administrator on duty for various varsity home contests and championships throughout the academic year. Commensurate with experience, this position will be granted sport administrative oversight of multiple varsity sports within the first twelve (12) months of full-time employment.
- Oversee all aspects of club and intramural sports with scheduling, budgeting, medical clearance, coverage of all home contests and events, monthly e-board meetings, equipment inventory and purchasing, and hiring club sports coaches. Will collaborate with Student Activities, Involvement & Leadership Office to execute these activities.
- Oversee the daily operations of the Pappas Fitness Center, including scheduling preventive maintenance, equipment purchases, and budgeting.
- Serve as Administrator on Duty or other duties as assigned for home contests and post-season tournaments for club and selected varsity sports. This person will serve as a committee member and site supervisor for selected department events, such as the home and post-season contests, Lyons Athletic Club Golf Tournament, and Hall of Fame.
- Oversight of the athletic department student employment program. Responsible for managing the work-study budget in collaboration with the Office of Student Employment and the Life and Career Design Institute. Responsible for recruiting, supervising, and evaluating student workers for club sports, intramurals, recreation, and the fitness center.
- Oversight of varsity head coaches in relation to sport oversight at the intercollegiate varsity level commensurate with experience.
- Serves as a representative on the Student Affairs Leadership Team. Serves on other campus committees if/when necessary, as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and intercollegiate varsity and/or collegiate club sports or recreation management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends throughout the year to accomplish the tasks necessary for success in this field.
- Commitment to working and teaching in an environment that fosters students’ development in education, cultural diversity, and mental health awareness.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree, recreation management and varsity sport oversight at the collegiate level.

The anticipated hiring or recruitment range for this position is $60 – $65K. The actual salary offered will be commensurate with the qualifications, education and experience of the candidate hired.
