Mid-Level Software Engineer

In this role, you will apply extensive technical expertise to develop innovative solutions for complex problems. You will work with considerable latitude, determining your own objectives and approaches to high-impact assignments. About the Role
Redhorse transforms the way government uses data and technology. To support this mission, we are seeking a Software Systems Engineer who is considered an emerging authority in their field. In this role, you will apply extensive technical expertise to develop innovative solutions for complex problems. You will work with considerable latitude, determining your own objectives and approaches to high-impact assignments. Your work will involve everything from multidisciplinary research and hardware collaboration to the design of advanced software systems using mathematical models to support the next generation of government digital infrastructure.
- Conduct research in the design, development, testing, and utilization of electronic data processing software.
- Design, develop, and debug applications software and systems that incorporate sophisticated logical and mathematical solutions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including equipment designers and hardware engineers, to plan and utilize data processing systems for product and commercial software.
- Determine computer user needs and analyze system capabilities to resolve complex problems regarding program intent and output requirements.
- Design and develop low-level system software, including compilers, assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.
- Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine design feasibility within established time and cost constraints.
- Confer with systems analysts, engineers, and programmers to identify project limitations, performance requirements, and critical interfaces.
- Design and modify software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure design outcomes and consequences.
- Coordinate software system installations and monitor equipment functioning to ensure all specifications are met.
- Ensure all software standards are consistently met across the development lifecycle.
- Exercise independent judgment in determining technical objectives and approaches to assignments.
- Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) with 8+ years of experience OR a Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience.
- Demonstrated experience as an emerging authority with extensive technical expertise in software systems.
- Proven track record of developing technical solutions to complex, multidisciplinary problems.
- Direct experience with the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), including documentation, testing, and debugging.
- Expertise in programming techniques and controls for electronic data processing systems.
We encourage all candidates who meet the basic requirements to apply, even if you do not have any of the following experience:
- Proficiency with GitLab for version control and Jira for project management.
- Experience with high-performance computing or data-intensive technologies such as Spark or DataBricks.
- Knowledge of low-level systems programming and operating system architecture.
- Background in applying mathematical models to real-world software engineering challenges.
- Experience leading technical components of a project or mentoring junior engineering staff.
The salary range provided for this position represents the anticipated base salary for successful candidates. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, education, certifications, skills, security clearance level, geographic location, market conditions, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, eligible employees may participate in Redhorse's comprehensive benefits programs and may be eligible for performance-based or other incentive compensation, where applicable.
