The Category Manager Contraceptives (Africa) is responsible for the strategic and commercial leadership of the contraceptive portfolio across VIYA Health African markets. The role develops, executes and assesses regional marketing strategies, drives product growth, supports successful product launches, and equips country commercial teams with the knowledge, tools, and capabilities required to achieve business objectives. The position serves as the primary regional expert for the product portfolio, works closely with Sales, Marketing, Medical, Regulatory, Market Access, Supply Chain, Global and Local country teams and ensures compliance with company policies and applicable regulations. Job Description

Strategic Portfolio Leadership

  • Develop and own the regional portfolio strategy and annual operating plan for assigned products.
  • Define portfolio objectives, growth strategies, and market expansion opportunities.
  • Establish product positioning, value propositions, and customer segmentation strategies.
  • Drive lifecycle management initiatives to maximize product performance and profitability.
  • Ensure alignment between global brand strategy and local market execution.

Marketing Strategy & Execution

  • Develop and implement integrated marketing plans across multiple countries.
  • Lead the design and deployment of promotional campaigns, digital initiatives, conference activities, and customer engagement programs.
  • Create and localize marketing materials in compliance with regulatory and legal requirements in conjunction in The Regulatory Team.
  • Monitor campaign effectiveness and optimize activities based on market feedback and business results.
  • Manage product launches and launch excellence across the region.

Sales Force Effectiveness & Capability Building

  • Act as the regional product expert and trusted product advisor to country sales teams.
  • Develop and assess use of sales tools, product training programs, competitive selling guides, and promotional materials.
  • Conduct regional sales meetings, launch workshops, and product knowledge training sessions.
  • Support field visits to understand customer needs and improve commercial execution.
  • Enhance sales force effectiveness through coaching and continuous capability development.

Market Intelligence & Business Insights

  • Monitor market trends, epidemiology, Family Planning guidelines, customer needs, and competitive activity.
  • Analyze sales performance, market share, prescribing trends, and customer insights.
  • Identify business opportunities and risks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Generate forecasts and demand-planning assumptions for assigned brands.
  • Provide regular portfolio performance reports and recommendations to senior leadership.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner with Medical Affairs to ensure scientific accuracy and evidence-based promotion.
  • Collaborate with Regulatory Affairs to ensure compliant marketing activities.
  • Work with Supply Chain and Demand Planning teams to support product availability.
  • Coordinate with Market Access and Government Affairs functions to support access strategies.
  • Lead cross-functional launch and growth projects across the region.

Financial & Commercial Management

  • Develop annual brand forecasts and operating plans.
  • Manage regional marketing budgets efficiently.
  • Monitor return on investment (ROI) for marketing initiatives.
  • Drive revenue, market share, and profitability targets.
  • Recommend resource allocation based on business priorities and performance.

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure all promotional activities comply with company policies and local pharmaceutical regulations.
  • Adhere to industry codes of practice and ethical marketing standards.
  • Support compliance reviews and approval processes for promotional materials.
  • Promote a culture of integrity and patient-centricity in all commercial activities.

Qualifications

The basics:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in pharmacy, Nursing, Medicine, Biological Sciences, or a related life sciences field.
  • MBA or postgraduate qualification is preferred.
  • Pharmaceutical sales and marketing
  • 7 - 10 years of pharmaceutical sales/industry experience
  • Minimum 35 years in Product Management, Brand Management, or Marketing.
  • Experience managing pharmaceutical products across multiple African countries
  • Experience promoting women's health and/or reproductive health products is preferred.
  • Experience selling contraceptives is highly desirable.
