The Embedded Firmware Engineer will take ownership of major firmware components and contribute to the development of connected products. This role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver reliable and scalable embedded solutions.
- Design, develop, debug, and maintain embedded firmware for IoT, smart home, and video streaming products.
- Own firmware features throughout the entire product development lifecycle, from initial design through production deployment.
- Develop and integrate device drivers, communication protocols, RTOS components, and embedded platform software.
- Collaborate with hardware, cloud, mobile, QA, and external manufacturing partners to ensure successful product integration.
- Troubleshoot complex firmware, hardware, and system-level issues through structured debugging and root-cause analysis.
- Optimize embedded software for performance, memory efficiency, power consumption, and overall system reliability.
- Review hardware schematics, component documentation, and technical specifications to support firmware development.
- Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Evaluate new processors, system-on-chips, image sensors, wireless modules, and hardware technologies for future products.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and development processes.
The ideal candidate is an experienced embedded systems engineer with a strong background in firmware development, IoT technologies, and connected devices. They bring hands-on technical expertise, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively across hardware and software teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field; Master’s degree or equivalent industry experience is a plus.
- 7+ years of experience developing embedded firmware, preferably for IoT, networking, consumer electronics, or video streaming products.
- Strong programming skills in Embedded C and C++.
- Experience developing software for RTOS and Embedded Linux platforms.
- Solid understanding of multimedia applications, including video/audio processing, compression, and streaming technologies such as H.264/H.265.
- Experience with multithreaded and multitasking embedded software development.
- Proven experience developing and debugging embedded device drivers.
- Strong knowledge of debugging techniques, system analysis, and hardware/software troubleshooting.
- Experience optimizing embedded systems for performance and resource constraints.
- Familiarity with networking protocols including TCP, UDP, HTTP/HTTPS, RTP, RTSP, SIP, and WebRTC.
- Experience with wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), and LTE.
- Knowledge of IoT architectures, cloud-connected devices, and communication protocols such as Zigbee, Z-Wave, Thread, and Matter.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or Lua.
- Familiarity with Linux memory management, file systems, and bootloaders such as U-Boot.
- Experience supporting products through manufacturing and production environments.
- Hands-on experience with hardware debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.
- Experience using source control systems such as Git.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across technical teams.
