This Cytotechnologist role offers the opportunity to work alongside pathologists, laboratory professionals, and clinical teams in a supportive environment focused on quality, innovation, and continuous learning.
As a Cytotechnologist, you will play a critical role in the detection and diagnosis of malignancies, premalignant conditions, atypias, and inflammatory processes through the microscopic evaluation of gynecological and non-gynecological specimens. You will provide diagnostic support through specimen screening, documentation, quality practices, and rapid on-site evaluations while contributing to efficient laboratory operations and outstanding patient outcomes.

A typical day for a Cytotechnologist may include:• Screen gynecological and non-gynecological cytology specimens for the detection of malignancy, premalignant conditions, atypias, and inflammatory conditions.
• Accurately document and maintain all required laboratory records, reports, and testing documentation in accordance with departmental and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with pathologists and laboratory personnel to support timely and accurate diagnostic interpretations.
• Perform Rapid On-Site Evaluation (ROSE) for Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA), Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS), and ION procedures.
• Evaluate specimen adequacy during on-site procedures and communicate findings to the appropriate clinical team members.
• Adhere to laboratory quality assurance, quality control, and regulatory compliance standards.
• Utilize laboratory information systems and documentation processes to ensure accurate specimen tracking and reporting.
• Assist with Cytology preparation activities and perform duties typically assigned to the Cytology Prep Assistant when needed.
• Assume responsibility for supervising Cytology Prep Assistant activities in the absence of the Cytology Supervisor.
• Maintain compliance with all laboratory safety, infection prevention, and accreditation standards.
• Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives, continuing education, and competency assessments.
• Maintain a professional, organized, and patient-focused laboratory environment while supporting optimal diagnostic services.
• You possess strong attention to detail and excel at identifying subtle cellular abnormalities.

• Meet all education and experience requirements established by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) of 1988 and New Jersey Department of Health regulations.
• Hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
• Be a graduate of a Cytotechnology program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) or its recognized successor.
• Hold Cytotechnologist certification through an agency approved by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), such as the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
• Meet any applicable grandfathering provisions as outlined in 42 CFR 493.1483.
• Previous experience performing cytology screening and Rapid On-Site Evaluation (ROSE) procedures is preferred.
