Title: Day Habilitation Program Assistant & Driver

Position Type: Full-time, Non-exempt

Reports to: Community Independence Program (CIP) Coordinator

Base Location: Newburgh, NY

Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 3:30pm

Pay Rate: $24.11/hr

About the Role

The Day Habilitation Program Assistant & Driver supports adults with developmental disabilities as they participate in meaningful daily activities both at the program center and throughout the community. This role combines safe transportation responsibilities with direct participant support to help individuals achieve personal goals, increase independence, and enjoy enriching life experiences.

The ideal candidate is compassionate, dependable, flexible, and committed to creating a positive and inclusive environment for all participants.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide safe and reliable transportation for participants between their homes, the program center, and community activities
  • Assist individuals who use wheelchairs or other mobility devices during transportation and activities
  • Support participants during daily activities while encouraging independence and participation
  • Assist with daily living needs including lunch support, toileting, mobility, and other personal care tasks while maintaining dignity and respect
  • Foster a welcoming, supportive, and positive environment for participants
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with participants, families, and team members
  • Contribute observations and feedback to individual support plans
  • Complete required documentation including daily notes and monthly reports accurately and on time
  • Collaborate with team members and provide support wherever needed to ensure quality participant experiences
Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have

  • A valid, unrestricted New York State driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • A compassionate and respectful approach when working with individuals with disabilities
  • Willingness to assist with personal care and daily living tasks
  • Strong organizational skills and flexibility in a dynamic environment
  • A high school diploma or equivalent

It would be a plus if you also have

  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
  • CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain certification
  • College coursework in human services or a related field
  • Bilingual skills, particularly Spanish-speaking ability
